Why not have a dressing up box and use a corner of the room as a "photo booth"? That's what i'm thinking of doing. Get your photographer (or hire a very nice friend) to take pics for half an hour and people can have some fun photos taken from the day. You could even have a little chalk board (try ebay) for people to write messages to the bride and groom. Depending on the venue you could put up a curtain/fabric as a backdrop to the photos.
This would make your day that little bit different but be WAY cheaper than hiring a photobooth. You could even buy a cheap polaroid camera if you wanted instant photos and people could stick them in an album straight away and write in it.
Hope this helps!
I've written some tips on my wedding planning on facebook: search for My Vintage Wedding. I've just started but i'll keep updating it with links to help other wedding planners!
Thanks!0 -
I wanted a photobooth but we couldn't afford it! Might go with the Polaroid idea though and see if I can borrow it from someone - thank you lili1984!0

im having a photo booth even though i cant afford it...

its one of the things at our reception that we are really excited about0 -
We are having a photobooth but instead are going to make one ourselves using webcam and some software called 'spark booth' - costs $59/£40 but think it's worth it! You can download trial for free (Perhaps give it a trial to give your OH a feel for what it would be like and that it could be fun!!) It works very similar to a photobooth, you can also personalise the picture borders, etc (eg Mr and Mrs Smith wedding, 1st July 2011). It can also automatically upload the photos to flickr, facebook etc, if you have internet access available. We don't want our guests to play around with the computer, so will sit our laptop under the table and only have a keyboard, monitor and webcam on the table. Guests will be able to use it self service by pressing the space bar. There were some other software out there that was cheaper/free but didn't think it was worth the bother, a camera would be just as much good as the software was so poor.
For something slightly different you could have a camera on a tripod. Or if you did want to go down the polaroid route, you will find the camera's are cheap but film is non-exsistant & expensive as they don't make it anymore. There are more 'instant' film cameras you could go with instead though - I know someone who has a Fuji Instax 100 & the film is reasonably priced but would imagine there are different ones out there. You could even make your own 'background' with some MDF and funky wallpaper? (Transort/cost issues) or hang some fabric from a dowling rod? And an empty picture frame to 'frame' for your guests to hold while they have their pic taken?
I'm also making some fimo red lips and black moustaches on sticks plus lots of other dressing up items (am checking out sales and charity shops as well as friends and families) I think photobooths are great fun and can't wait to be able to muck around. I do wonder what the older guests will make of it though!!0 -
Has anyone on here got experience of a home made one? Just wondering if there are any tips of what worked great, or if they had problems with lighting etc...
I really want to do this, but is it as straight forward as getting a background and some props? We're thinking we'd just set up a cheap digi camera on a tripod & leave it there for people to use??Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93

Thank you in advance0 -
We've got a photobooth for our wedding next Saturday. We bought a small gazebo from Argos and my very creative aunt has turned it into a photobooth by replacing the sides with material (blue b/c thats our colours with ivory trim) which gives it a cute circus /vintage effect.
It looks very cool!! I've got a polaroid camera and a box of dress up stuff. I am putting a small table inside so ppl can take their pics and sign the guestbook with their pic alongside. I also made speech bubbles out of board and self adhesive chalk paper so ppl can write something if they want to for pic.
My aunt even made an old school vintage sign with "The "Photobooth is Open" on. Our wedding is in a barn so wanted a vintage feel to it, it looks like a genuine old school chalkboard. We love it, and it probably cost £30 to make in total.
The polaroids are expensive to buy but you always just have a digital camera and insert pics into guestbook later if you want.

Oooo, wench, you are my date twin :j
I am loving the idea of the small gazebo etc.
I sooooooo wanted a photobooth, but couldn't afford it - booo. So my DIY effort so far just consists of a huge fancy dress / props box. I wondered whether to put a material backdrop like in the corner of the room, but wondered whether that would look a bit tacky.
Might just have to have a lil investigate of a gazebo and see if we can pinch your idea

Actually, there is a firm now making their own called the Impossible Project, making PX 600, PX 680 film in monochrome and colour (altho colour isn't quite as good yet, they're working on it!). Its still pricey at around £17 for 10 shots but I bought my polariod camera off ebay for £4, the film if you get people to stand in groups for their photos doesn't actually work out that bad. Certainly cheaper than paying in the region of £500 for a photo booth... that works out as 29 rolls of film or 290 photos, thats way more than you would need!!
