Only takes a week to fast track a passport application.
From the lenders point of view a reasonable request to see one.0 -
does he not have a passport at all or does he just not have a british one?
If he has an Indian(?) passport then surely that contains the visa with the indefinite leave to remain stamp?
Also doesn't he have the letter(s) that confirm his indefinite leave to remain as well?
I can't believe a banks underwrites can't confirm with the UKBA about his status? (based on those letters)0 -
You have more chance through Halifax???
Yes, his Indian passport has all the things needed to state he is legally in this country!
Thank you! Any further info will continue to be useful!0 -

Well my wife and i have mortgaged through both nationwide and the halifax (as it was) without a problem.
She is a foreign national and has never had (nor particularly wants) a UK passport.
We had no problems with either bank.
The entire thing seems somewhat odd to me.0 -
Hi Alleycat,
Thanks for letting me know about this as it's given me some hope. The first application through the underwriters (or undertakers as I like to now call them) went through ok but then they lost the applications but all was ok then, now its all seems all too odd as there should be no issues at all regardless of the passport issue!
I feel something fishy is going on, but the other half is going to speak with them now!0 -

My partner who has the right to live in the UK (has been for nearly 12 years) but doesn't have a british passport, he applied for a mortgage on a flat, got all his debts cleared and his defaults only for the mortgage lenders to decline it after 6 months due to the fact that he doesn't have a British passport.
Could someone advise on this as his solicitor is saying that after all the hassle and the money invested nothing can be done.
Any help would be really appreciated URGENTLY! We really need this flat before we get married and things are starting to get desperate!
Thanks,
Mrs Langford.
Could the defaults have anything to do with the decline rather than the passport?
If he had defaulted credit this would have impacted on credit score.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. the defaults were cleared before the application so there are no issues there and the application was approved at first!0

"Curmudgeonly" is a word I feel best describes a mortgage lender. It seems to perfectly encapsulate that whole ethos of "if the criteria says you have to have one, you have to have one, however daft the demand might appear."I am a mortgage broker. What do you mean by this?, defaults stay on a credit report for 6 years and will seriously impair you getting a mortgage in the current climate. Have the defaults expired or has your OH just brought his other credit commitments up to date so to speak?
I'd get a look at his credit record to be certain...0
