In theory, Connexions should be able to help him.

Sorry, not necessarily. Connexions only deal with JSA.

Depends what you mean by help. If the OP is enquiring whether Connexions can help in making a claim for JSA then this is correct. You will need to go into Connexions to complete an ES9 form and then take this to the jobcentre under 18s section. If he needs help looking for work, training educational opportunities then certainly visit your local Connexions.

However, as sea-side lady states her son has a severe disability, although without knowing what this is and how it affects his ability to work no judgement can be made as to what benefit, if any may apply. If a doctor says you are unable to work it could fall under Incapacity benefit or Disability Living Allowance.

    I would ring the jobcentre.

    Telephone 0800 88 22 00

    Best of luck

McDonalds is actually a good place to work. If you're any good they have excellent career progression, and promote quickly.

If you're lazy and have bad attitude, well you'll struggle anywhere.

who on earth wants to work at maccy dees,

Why would someone not want to work there? It's a job which pays money.

Where do you work as that attitude seems very immature?

Well, my understanding is that Connexions advisers can help with pretty much any aspect of life if you're aged 13-19 - housing, employment, health etc. Of course, there may be a specific JobCentre scheme with this name, but I'm referring to the 'youff' one ...

I think it's right the government forcing parents to keep a child if they leave school at 16. If he were my son he would be kicked out the house and forced to look for work or go to college. Too many youngsters are lazy these days, i say stop benefit after 6 weeks of unemployment and force them into work.

Sweeping floors is a job and even working in McDonalds would give him self respect, if he has any of course.

Then again i blame the government for making it easy for people to sit on their backside all day claiming benefit.

Again, I would refer back to my post. Much of what Connexions do is to signpost and refer to specialist agencies. In this case if the young person is <18 and it's not Job Seekers Allowance then all other benefits are claimed through JC+.

That's making more sense to me now.

Although my understanding - and I've never had to test it out - is that each young person should have access to a Personal Adviser through Connexions, and even though they may refer on, you can still go back to that Adviser if support is needed in ANY area of life. If you get a good one, that could be very useful!
