move to O2?

Was thinking about moving from my current ISP (AAISP) to O2 to save some more money ;)

While I am happy with the service currently, with the combination of the monthly cost + BT line I can halve this by going to O2 for both. If so I would likely choose their 'all rounder' package.

However, after reading about traffic shaping (management) by O2 I wonder if anyone can offer opinion please?

I just use bb for mainly web, email etc. I don't do online gaming, film downloads, P2P etc. I have read peoples postings elsewhere that O2 TM has afected even youtube performance?

TIA

Sky wins hands down unless you can get VM. Free basic, £5.00 medium or unlimited for £7.50 if you have sky tv.

o2 are currently having problems with all their IP addresses being banned as they have been infected by a spam virus/trojan. I've been having no end of problems.

If it does not, I'd suggest that the traffic management aspects are not going to be the main issue; the biggest problem is the lack of available bandwidth on the O2 Access package.

At an exchange level the O2 and AAISP offerings are much the same in that case - both resold BTW products. But there's a reason why AAISP's version is much dearer than O2's and it has to do with the amount of bandwidth they purchase which has a direct effect on the speeds you might see.

I've been with o2 for two/three years, now with home phone too can recommend but I believe there is capping whereas I'm on the original offer with no cap.

I'd like to see a link to this supposed virus/trojan as I've heard nothing.

What problems are you experiencing with this?

Had already checked there to see what was available thanks. Seems I have a wide choice available.

LLU available so should not be an issue?

This is what concerns me along with any traffic shaping. IIRC AAISP dimension their capacity to 1.5 or 2 times expected demand.

As an O2 customer I believe their prices are £12.50 (or £8.50 for basic) + £7.50 for line which beats the £35+ I seem to be paying at present. AS I'm not a Sky sub I understand their offerings are £11.25/month line (with increase due June)+ basic BB free or £10 for unlimited.

I'm on a legacy O2 package (O2 premium) and pay £13 a month (I have a pay monthly contract with them).

I think they offer their phone package and all rounder broadband package for £26

Sky no longer have the medium package @£5.
Currently its Free 2Gb allowance p/m
Unlimited £15 p/m without TV or line rental
with a £5 discount if taking either talk package, and a further £2.50 discount if already Sky Tv customer

I'm on the O2 legacy package at the moment , I can't wait to get from O2 as the customer service has been useless for me.

I sometimes get disconnected and can only reconnect by going through O2 support , each time level 1 fail to find any problems but cannot connect me so pass me onto level 2 , level 2 manage to get me connected again after a few adjustments to the line and monitor the line for faults , nothing is ever found but the fault keeps on coming back every few months.

Another thing that has put me off is the wifi signal on the supplied Wireless box II is next to useless ( using exactly the same set up on a Netgear router and all is fine ) but O2 refuse to admit there is a problem with the router and will not let me upgrade the router without signing up for a new contract.

I can't understand why they refuse to send me the other router as they probably pay very little for them and it always belongs to O2 anyway and will have to be sent back on end of contract.

Because of the problems I've experienced I've just returned a new contract phone to O2 mobile under the 14 day approval policy , they're happy to lose a 24 month mobile contract over the loan of a £20 router , unfortunately I'm stuck with the broadband as I renewed my contract in December so I have to stick with them for another 7 months.
