With or without a current card, the underlying account is still there and there will be no difficulty to credit the money to the account. Once it is credited and the replacement card hasn’t arrived yet, you can make a withdrawal through counter service and cashier.
Or is the account in question so hopelessly overdrawn, that you'd rather prefer the dosh in another account?
That would be money-laundering! (Small scale admittedly, but money-laundering nevertheless.)0 -

Genuine question - How do shop workers in stores actually do this then?
I can understand an on-line company doing it, but how do they do it if they use a till without a card?
My understanding is that the reason retailers want to credit the same card is to get back the mastercard/visa fees on a refund.
It's down to shop policy but a lot of stores insist on the same card or same type (visa/mastercard) card.
They might do it to any card at their discretion but I believe it's down to fees.0 -

The OP still has the physical card in his possession. Just a normal refund and it will end-up in the account.moneyguy0151 wrote: »i physically still have the card but i doubt they can credit.0 -
Depends how much the person in the shop cares/is paying attention. I've had a refund on stuff before and they've never bothered to check the number against the receipt as the card has usually stayed on my side of the till.0

In agree it's entirely down to store policy and also how much the staff actually enforce it.
A lot of big stores (like BHS) do actually insist on it as I guess their costs across all their stores are significant enough to be worth bothering about.
I did have a duplicate isssue once with a skirt for my MIL who is 83 and in a wheelchair.
It would have been quite difficult for someone to get her to the store i.e. take a day off work jsut to get the right card into the store.
In the end we took the other skirt back, but it is an interesting question.0 -
thanks for all your advice guys, the money was refunded on the original (blocked) card. although i could of used a differnet card for the actual transaction0
