Lost ITV, C4,C5 etc on Freeview

Hope somebody can help here.
A week or so ago, ITV and C4 started breaking up quite badly. I thought I'd retune the TV to correct this and ended up losing them completely. TV is a LG if that's relevant. Several retune attempts later and still no joy. I know these channels are on MUX2. I've also lost MUXD which isn't too critical as I hardly watch the channels on that multiplex.
I also have a Humax PVR which I have not retuned and this receives the full Freeview line up (including ITV and C4) crystal clear.
The Samsung TV in the bedroom (also not retuned) has perfect reception as well.
This leads me to believe my aerial is fine.
Has my TV "died"? Local transmitter is Tacolneston if that is important.
Any advice would be appreciated

As far as I can see, your local transmitter has not "switched over" yet (due November this year) so your Freeview signals FOR MUX 2 & D are weak or very weak.
See http://www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=TM131958
Personal experience in my area PRIOR to switch over, suggests that some tuners are better able to cope with weak signals than others. May well mean that your LG set is not one of those!!
However, I have an LG LCD in one of the bedrooms - it has a built in signal booster.Has yours got one ?? and if so,is it switched on?? (available thru onscreen menu)0 -
The TV does have a built in signal booster which is "On" whilst watching TV. I noticed that when I commence the tuning scan, the booster turns itself "Off". Is there a way of over-riding this?0

we've lost the BBC channels and haven't had them for quite a while now. Bit of a nightmare as we can't record casuality. Will be interesting what happens when they do switch over:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

If the current distribution point for the 3 tvs is just a passive splitter then swap this for a 4 way powered amplifier. If you donot have power at the distribution point use a 4 way masthead amplifier and a seperate power supply unit in one of the rooms.

Hi ya most of my neighbours have too. I contacted the bbc using different websites www.bbc.co.uk/reception www.tvretune.co.uk www.digital.text@bbv.co.uk www.bbc.co.uk/digital basically they told me to either get my ariel looked at or wait till the switchover (which I think is august in my area) and use bbc iplayer. I've decided to wait and sort my ariel out after the switch over if it needs it. I just have to use channel 4 od and itv catch up to watch corry now instead. It's disappointing that they didnt tell us of the pit falls of the switch over before hand.0

Think you'll need to look thru your model manual carefully ...on my LG it appears to stay on if I start a retune.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Problem now solved - turns out it was a dodgy aerial cable between the wall socket and the PVR. I've swapped this with another one in the house and it's now fine.
At least the solution cost nothing!0 -
Hi,
A quick question please.
I had the same issue until I connected a booster and then got these channels with no problems but since then I find that these channels will start to break up occasionally and I don't know why.
We had a bad thunderstorm the other day and the channels disappeared which I expected so retuned but I've noticed that the picture can break up through other reasons. I have an airwick freshner in the same room which sprays air freshner every 30 mins. Believe it or not but this spray causes the picture to break up each time it goes off, how can that happen? Obviously it has now been turned off.
My neighbour was doing some drilling at the weekend and this interfered with the tv picture. As soon as he stopped, the picture went back to being fine again. He wasn't even in the room that backs on to mine but in a different part of his house. I know it was this that caused it because I had someone checking when he stopped and started.
Is this sort of thing going to carry on happening once the switchover is complete do you think? I know the weather can effect signals but why would other things affect the picture?
I have days with no problems at all so I know the aerial is fine.0 -
You cables and/or sockets and/or connections are not properly shielded, this interference will more than likely continue post switchover.0
