Hello All in Pest & Petcare,
Do you know where I can go to get "Istin 5mg x 28" for my cat who is 18 years old and recovering from cancer operation.
I heard that you can purchase this drug that is for adults and give it to your cat. True?
My local vet says that if I can show I can get the drug cheaper then they will price match that price. So if you can point me in the right direction with say web links or advice where to look.
Many thanks.:T

I used to buy it from
https://www.bestpetpharmacy.co.uk with a prescription from my vet. It is not listed on the site so you need to call them to check the price.0 -

I find these guys the cheapest: http://www.vet-medic.com/
I use them for two human medications my dog needs daily (Florinef and Soloxine).0 -
Although this is an old post I thought it might help others who like me are looking to reduce the cost of buying pet medication.
I found this thread whilst looking to buy Istin for my cat. I called the two recommended suppliers listed in the discussion and was very surprised by the results!
First I called BestPet... I asked for a price and was told they didn't do Istin but could offer a replacment Prednisolne. Now fortunately I happen to know that Prednisolone isn't a hypertensive drug but a Steroid! Nothing like the product I was prescribed! Eventually they found a price for Istin...their price was higher than the vet!
Then I called Vet-Nedic who were very professional but a pack of 28 came in at £23.80 (add to that the price of the presciption and it works out more expensive than the vet).
So...onto the reason for my post....there is good news! As Istin is a medication prescribed for humans you can buy it with a prescription from your local pharmacist. My local chemist has quoted me £16.62 for 28 5mg pills.... that's a massive saving!
I hope this info helps others get the best price when looking after their poorly pets.0 -
Just don't say that the drug is for your pet!
Why do I say that? because I was going to buy something for my dog in Boots.
But stupidly said it was for the dog...not a human........result they refused to sell me the product!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Really strange to se this thread popping up again as I have just recently had to buy Istin for a second one of my cats.
Based on my previous experience I asked the vet for a prescription and planned to buy it online. Bestpet were charging around £30 so I then went to check on an international pharmacy site.
It was cheaper online but the shipping was slow....so I ended up popping into my local chemist who charged me £16!
As I had a prescription from a licensed vet he was happy to dispense the drugs, but as a poster above mentions, they CANNOT legally sell you over the counter meds if you tell them it is for an animal.0 -
i used to get it from chemist direct - 48p a tablet
needed a prescription from my vet though.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500 -
Hi I know this is an old thread but my cat has recently been put on Istin for her blood pressure and like everyone else looking for the cheapest option! Some of you have mentioned that you can take your prescription to the chemist - but will they do that if its for a cat? or do the vets issue the prescription in my name not my cats? plus if I can get prescription thru chemist because I like in Scotland does that mean it will be free?? (fingers crossed)
thanks0 -

I doubt they will give it free. Since its from a vet it would be classed as a private prescription surely.0
