transferring mobile number during contract to another supplier?
Hi, I am currently with orange on a bad contract. If i want to take another contract with e.g. o2, can i transfer my current orange mobile phone number to o2 and still keep the orange contract going? Will orange give me a new number, or is it not possible to transfer a phone number and keep the contract running?
I know it is clearly possible at the end of a contract and orange would simply change the contract to a payg sim, but can you do this mid contract?
Thanks

Generally it is not possible.
You can get a free Orange PAYG sim and try persuading them to swap numbers between the contract and PAYG. Then port the number from PAYG.0 -
No, its not possible. Your Orange number is committed and tied into the contract.
If you wish to transfer your in contract Orange number to O2, you will have to terminate the contract and get a PAC code which would mean paying the early termination charge.0 -
Yeah, it can't be done. The moment you move your number the acc is closed, that's the way the network (all the networks) are programmed, there's no way round it.0

Thanks for the replies. Annoying, but oh well.0

Probabably best to clarify the answers already given.
They were all saying it's not possible to cancel without paying an early termination fee.
You can in fact cancel at anytime, but if you have not hit your mimimum term you'll have to to pay a fee of the number of months left in your minimum term x your monthly contract amount as a penalty to break the contract.0
