The N900 isn't a phone, its an internet communicator that stores things in the cloud and has phone functionality added (but no MMS as you view them online)
Its inconceivable that anyone could not realise that the N900 connects to the net.0 -
You bought an N900 without any data? Whats the point of a smartphone, if it's not on the internet?Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

My husband found out the same day as the OP posted his message that Vodaphone have been adding £10 per month to his bill since 2007  for something called Music Station Weekly. When asked what this was and why he was being charged for it, he was told that it had originally been given to him free of charge and that if he didn't want it he should have cancelled it!
My husband has no knowledge of ever being told about Music Station and most certainly has never used it. After explaining this to Vodaphone he was offered £20 rebate!!! Which he told them he wasnt excepting under any circumstances as they had been taking £120 a year off him for the last 4 years - so they upped there offer to £40
Unfortunatly he is one of those people who trusts companies and assumed that the tarriff that they had put him on was correct and the reason he was over each month was due to calls outside his tarriff & picture messaging!!! I seem to remember questioning him about this on a couple of occasions, but when he called they offered him a cheaper tarriff and told him he could upgrade his phone. It seems to me like perhaps this was used this as a ploy to detract the customer from the real reason they are being over-charged instead of double checking their bill with them :mad::mad:
Does anyone know if a company is allowed to add free items to your contract without your consent and then charge you for them later? I've looked over the old paperwork that we received from them back in 2007 and I cannot see any reference to Music Station?
I realise that he has been more than remiss in not checking his bills which has allowed the problem to exist as long as it has, but no company should be able to overcharge customers for services they did not want, request or know about !!! So any help would be gratefully received. My question may be simple...but please don't assume that I am0 -
Little - princess - I had this happen to me to for something given me free but then unwittingly started paying for it. I didn't know until after a few months. They told me I should have checked my bills and it was my fault. I got a part-refund but it makes me so angry!!!!! Something should be done to stop this sort of con....and the smart phone con where they go on line. I didn't want (or know) I had a so-called smart phone! It was one of the few nokia's available (I wanted nokia) and so picked the best of a bad bunch. These companies are making millions from these sort of scams - it wouldn't be allowed for normal high street trading so how come these people get away with it? :mad:0

3G isn't the only way for the N900 to connect to the internet. N900 has WiFI capability.
Vodafone have compensated me with £10. "As a gesture of goodwill, I've credited your account with £10 and it will be adjusted with your next month invoice." sounds like "As a gesture of being busted for over charging you".
I will be leaving Vodafone as soon as possible and will be sharing this story in every conversation that mentions Vodafone.
Thank you all for any help,0 -
I had a similar issue. My phone connected to the web to get updates. I phoned Vodafone, they've blocked the interweb connection (I don't use it anyway) and advised that I can connect via my laptop to the site to update periodically through my own wifi connection. This will then be 'free' effectively (or at least not an additional cost). They also refunded me the charges I'd paid. But then I'd noticed it on the first bill and queried it straight away. TBH, I've always found Vodafone CS to be very helpful."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Theres always T-Mobile if you're getting hit with data charges - as far as I know having signed up a couple of months ago, they'll never* charge you for going over your allocated data allowance, they'll just point out to you its a fair usage policy and ask you to keep an eye on it but they won't hit you with any charges for the additional.
And although I've had a few issues with T-mobile thus far which is annoying, their customer services is generally pretty helpful - for example they reduced my wifes bill (I pay for both our phones) by £10 for the month as phones 4 U hadn't sent them the direct debit details so the bill never got paid - not T-mobiles fault, but they sorted it out, plus I managed to rack up £30 of additional charges last month ringing 08 numbers (ie 0844/0800 etc, British gas and so on) not realising they charge a frankly extortionate 41p per minute for those numbers - a bit of hardcore bad temper to customer services and they wiped the charges.
Hopefully now we've rubbed off the rough edges, me and T-mobile will get on fine.
*I say never, I'd imagine if you abused the service they'd have something to say.0
