Vodafone over charging!!

I've had a contract with Vodafone for 15 months on a contract that should cost £25p/m but my bill is always £45+. Today, after many days of trying to get a reply from Vodafone customer services about trouble gaining access to my online account I finally logged in and they have charged me 83p pretty much every single day for the past 15 months. That's nearly £400 for thin air!
I've received no warning about these costs and the worst of it is the data usage is hardly anything! Sometimes 8Kb of data per day. It costs less for the Hubble telescope to send data back to earth! Literally!
Has anybody else been scammed by Vodafone this way?
Many thanks, Stephen

Why you being charged the extra £20,0
-
It's a combination of both calls, texts and data usage. The call and text costs are what I expect but the majority of the £20 comes from a few KB of usage each day which I don't even know what it's for0

i bet its stuff updating, can you not stop anything form connecting0 -
Nothing connects are far as I'm aware. I'm more annoyed that I'm being charged 83p without VAT to download a few KBs which has added up to me pretty much donating £400 to Vodafone0

I take it you don't have any data allowance with your contract. Your handset is using some, which since it is not included with your contract, you are being billed for. If it's taken you 15 months to notice this, you can hardly blame Vodafone.
Turn off internet access on your phone. All phones have this option in the settings somewhere.0 -

As explained in original post, I've had a lot of trouble getting access to the information from both the reseller (mobiles.co.uk) and Vodafone. I have received no response from either company on many occasions and a lot of trouble gaining access to their online portal to view where the costs are coming from. It's easy to give up when it seems nobody wants to help you out.0 -
Hi - I too have had this same problem. I have never gone over my £30 contract until I upgraded my phone in January - all of a sudden I get £45+ bills. I called them to be told that my phone is a smart phone and updates (looking at my itemised bill online all the extra charges appear at midnight). Now this is extremely strange as I have turned off all internet settings on my phone and I cannot connect to the internet no matter how hard I have tried!
When I upgraded the phone I was not told this as my contract is just calls and texts (do not want internet). Vodafone must be aware of this problems because they immediately added an online package for free so that I would no longer be charged. I asked that although this was acceptable I am not happy because my phone 'updates/uses internet' when I clearly cannot if I wanted to. No explanation but as long as I am not charged am OK with it.
I searched on google and found lots of people having problems with this. Makes me wonder how may people are being conned with this if they don't check their bills!
Ring customer services is my advice. Let me know how you get on! hth x0 -

i have read it somewhere that phones do this0 -
Deja vu.
83pence is the data charge without vat. Vodafone charge a maximum of £1.00 per day for internet access.
The same thing happened to my wife this year. Vodafone convinced her to upgrade her phone to an android model in January, but said nothing about data access and the phone being online all the time. The first bill was £20 odd over. Luckily I knew what this would be and told Vodafone that they had essentially missold the phone by not explaining that it would be bound to incur extra charges.
They waived the extra and put in place a web tariff to be free for 3 months. The next month, it was still over. They'd put the tariff on for 5 days then cancelled it.
Another phone call insisting that they waive the extra again and reinstate the tarriff but now free for longer otherwise I would consider the contract void.
3rd month? Still £8 over, why, because they'd only put the tariff back on from the day i'd rung them. Last warning given or we cancel the contract and keep the phone.
Everythings now in place and shouldn't happen again, but clearly Vodafone are either incompetent at this or are craftily trying to increase bills by not advising android phone customers that it is "on all the time" and not putting them on web tarriffs as standard.
I know which one I suspect.;)0
