Even if you take it to Australia, wouldnt you get aussie plates mate?
dont know about their precedure over there regarding UK vehicles and numberplates but i will assume that it would have to be re-registered over there with aussie plates.0 -
It has just sunk in, you are thinking about taking that car that you have never had on the road?
You would have real problems as they only let you take over a car as a new resident if you have owned it for a certain amount of time, might be as long as two years but can't remember off hand.
I'd assume it's been registered to the OP for quite some time, even if it hasn't been driven.0 -
If you are going to take a car over there, at least take something you can make a profit on come sale time to offset the extra you will be paying for the new one.I don't think you will do that with the Citroen.0

my gut reaction is to leave it here. Kiss goodbye to £10k but one of my rellies will benefit. Might not go though. Just doing our research at mo and hubby's job offer is open ended. Should have followed my instincts and not bought it in first place. oh well, s**t happens!
thanks0 -
Unless you have a car-shaped empty space in the container, making the cost of the move "free" I really wouldn't bother.0

My sister-in-law left her car behind but she keeps it taxed and insured and uses it when she comes back. It's actually cheaper than renting the same type of car for the period she is over here. It gets used by other family members the rest of the year.0 -

Why would you lose £10k? Why can't you sell it before you leave and use the money to buy a car when your there?0 -
would you buy a CAT D car? It is technically no different to having your car repaired in an accident. However, if the car is almost brand new the costs are prohibitive, therefore they wrote it off. However, due to ignorance, there is a stigma attached to these cars and people don't want to buy them. Would give it a go though!!0

It has been several years since I looked into taking a car over to Aus, i was thinking about oving there so did a bit of planning.
However, i am sure I read something about the owner needing to prove use in the UK, such things as Insurance certificates and servicing reciepts I think.
Also the actual process is very complicated and expensive, especially if the car isn't normally imported to Aus.
I had just bought my Mondeo when I did my planning and they don't sell mk3 Mondeos over there, I think they sell the mk4 though.
Seriously spending thousands of pounds on a right off that hasn't turned a wheel in two years! Not my idea of a sensible way to spend money.:D
Of the 4 people that work at my base station that have gone to Aus in the last five years, none of them took their car, they all looked into it and sold it and bought a car when they got there.
I think the words V8 and Holden where mentioned!!!
Get rid of the Citreon or leave it to your rellies, when you get to Aus buy yourself something Japanese or something with a V8, I believe CNG is popular over there, I was told that all the taxis are CNG, I had thought that maybe they meant LPG but more than one person has said they are CNG so I will take their word for it.0
