Shipping car to Oz -worth it?

has anyone shipped or know about shipping cars out to Oz? I have a 2008 citroen grande picasso. I know European cars are expensive out there but this is complicated by fact this is a CAT D repaired vehicle. SO not sure they would even accept it into the country. Also never been insured as still at the flamin garage. (not their fault but ours for buying the piece of crap in the first place). Total nightmare.
Good job on offer out there so may have to cut our losses and leave the thing behind.
Anyone want a car? It's almost a new car now. nearly at the finishing line. any offers?:mad:

I know someone who took his Land Rover with him when he emigrated. IIRC he had to make a few minor changes to it when he got there.
As long as it isn't left hand drive I think it is possible. However, unless you have a sentimental attachment or something unusual, I doubt it is really worth it.0 -
Why would you want to drive a European car in Oz? Get yourself a nice comfortable Holden V8 of some description.

It could certainly be worth it.
The Aussie exchange rate is low against the pound. Historically it was nearly always been 2 AUS$ to the £. Now it's $1.54. So converting your £'s to buy a car in Oz will be expensive. And cars are expensive in Oz to start with.
My brother lives in Oz, bought a 15 year old car for the equivalent of £2k and sold it a year later for £2k!
You certainly need to look into removing the Cat D designation if possible, the cost of transport, the cost of taxes and registration in Oz.The man without a signature.0 -
I seriously doubt that Cat D will have an effect on the ability to export/import it - it's not noted on the logbook just on HPI, right?0

My mate's mom/step dad did this but the other way round (sydney to Birmingham... crazy people...). They brought over their Nissan X-Trail and Ford Falcon.
Within 2 weeks the Falcon was stolen off the drive, no biggie, insurance paid out enough for a 6 month old BMW M5.
The Xtrail eventually got to a point of needing a new parts. They spoke to my dad (a mechanic) who could not get the parts required as the chassis number wasnt recognised. They spoke to Nissan who had the same problems, and in the end had to ship stuff over from Oz.
Nissan advised them that despite it being a standard Xtrail, parts through them would always be difficult as they source parts as per chassis number, and european computers wont read the australian number, so Nissan advised to ship it back, sell it in Oz, and buy a British car...
In the end they just went back to Oz... left the M5 (after selling it) and took the Xtrail home...0 -
My neighbour had a similar problem. VW UK couldn't get him a Bora in the exact spec he wanted, so he went to the factory in Germany to get one. OMG. That's crazy. I don't know why we ever bought it. Hubby who is impulsive and doesn't think things through properly. Not listening to him ever again. :mad:0 -

how do you get the CAT D removed? When you go on DVLA website and type in reg no it says it there. Don't think it's on the V5.0
