Now I know I've already got to make sure data roaming is turned off so that I don't run up a huge bill, but there's 4 of us going away and we're all taking our phones.

If we get split up and need to phone eachother will it be charged at a "local" rate as we're all in the same place, or will we get charged an international rate?

Normally you will be charged roaming rates for both outgoing (to UK in fact) and incoming calls.
