need a cheap unlockable / O2 handset, any ideas please?

i have decided to switch to gaffgaff, however my current handset (nokia 1800 payg) appears to be unlockable from vodaphone, my current network.

does anyone know of the cheapest way to get a half-decent (not smartphone) unlockable phone? what are the best payg deals out there or alternatively, a good O2 deal (cos giffgaff works on o2 phones)? when i say 'half decent' in this context i mean ideally nokia, ideally with a camera and/or radio, but nothing too whizz bang. i had a look at o2's website but they didn't have anything under £30 and i am on a really tight budget at the moment!

What wrong with the LG GB102 on the o2 website? Yes it doesn't have a camera but at that price point it's only going to be 0.3mp and very minimal memory anyway. I have the Lg GB102 and it's great. Last's forever on the battery more than a week anyway. No whizz bang anything just a nice simple easy phone that makes phone calls and is easy enough to use use for texting. What's the reason for switching to giffgaff?

I'm asking as iCard mobile runs on Vodafone is as cheap as giffgaff so no need for a new phone if you are happy with your current one.

  • thanks all. i prefer not to use ebay as have been stung on it in the past. will definitely check out icard, i hadn't heard of them, they look interesting.

Most handsets in CPW are unlocked. Yes, you will need a £10 top up, but there are a number of very cheap PAYG handsets on their web site and in their shops.

I do recall reading that O2 handsets are unlocked as well, but CPW is your best bet.

Go into a CPW store with your Vodafone sim and see if they can do a PAYG upgrade for you. You'll get an unlocked phone at the cheapest price possible without needing to top up.
