Funny Old Woman!

Options
It's not often you'll see a thread like this in here (it's the other way around!), but out of all of the sections of the forum it seems the most relevant place to put it!

I work in a shop which closes at 9 in the evening which it did. The place was extremely quiet and the shop itself hadn't had anyone it it for the last 10 minutes.

Anyway whilst putting the shutter down a lady in her 50/60's appeared asking what time we close. I always find that a bizzare thing to be asked whilst closing!

I said 9, she said "well it's not 9 it's 10 to!" She showed me her watch, which did say 10 to! I go by clocks in 2 locations. One outside on display and the time shown on the till.

The outside clock said 9 and I suggested that her watch seems to be about 10 minutes slow.........Oh no! It's always right!

Of course it was straight to "who do I complain to?" At that point I said I still have to do the tills so you can look around for a bit if you want but I was told "No, I just want to complain".

I read this board and see sometimes people have a point, sometimes they perhaps have hindered their problems with their own approach. It goes to show though that some people will just complain for the sake of it.

The facts above. 1) Her watch was wrong. But the second is the conclusive fact that shows it was complaining that was the only important thing. I actually offered for her to go in the shop for a short while whilst I did the tills, but no? So what did she want? The only thing left was she simply wanted to complain about something.

What can you do?

  • ive had to deal with general public and many are just plain awkward what you should have said is "your watch is wrong im closing good evening "you are not beng assertive enough hence she will still go and complain, you do not enter in to chitt chatt unless you are pulling a fast one and trying to nip of early ASSERTVE is the answer

The thing is I've got a lot of evidence when I hear any comeback that I tired to help.

Whenever your assertive even in a situation where your perfectly right and their wrong in their letters or calls of compliant you were rude!

some bloke got on the bus one morning at 10 to 9 and tried to use his 'freedom pensioner pass' which was refused as they only start working at 9am.

the driver said to him that he was ten mins early and he then pulled his sleeves up and showed the driver 4 WATCHES (no word of a lie) on both wrists (2 on each) all showing 9am on the dot.

i couldnt believe my eyes and neither could my colleague who i used to get the bus with.

When I'm an OAP and this happens I'll just stand there for ten minutes and make the bus wait.

Young whipper snapper bus drivers need teaching a lesson. :rotfl:

  • I used to go in a pub where certain customers complained when "time" was called, claiming it was too early according their watch.

The Landlord used to say "if want to call time by your watch, buy yer own pub" :rotfl: :rotfl:

And with that, the towels went on! :D

Gosh! The OP said an old woman in her fifties! I don't regard myself as old and I won't see 50 or 60 again but I don't think of myself as old. My wife and I along with friends are off ski-ing next month as usual.
