iPhone 4: Keep or switch - what would you do?

Hi there,
To avoid a lenghty explanation I will try and make this to the point...
No one needs two iPhones so now I need to decide whether I am willing to give up my personal phone which holds more songs etc and squeeze all my data on to my work phone to save money... (I have asked if they could just pay my bill on personal phone but not an option). The main thing bothering me is the business tarrif doesn't allow picture messages which I do use regularly - can you still send and receive these with apps like WhatsApp even if network doesn't support it?
I obviously need to look at when my own contract and insurance end for it to make sense - hopefully soon enough to still get some money out of selling my personal handset (i bought it outright).
Anyway would be interested in people's thoughts, is it too risky not having your own phone, would you tranfser number etc?
Sorry for essay - thanks!

- I have a personal iPhone 4 32gb - £10-20 a month plus annual insurance
- I have a work iPhone 4 16gb - free usage (within reason) and insurance

Can't you bluetooth the picture messages?
android user ;-)
p.s why not just email the pics? Maybe get rid of the 32GB and just but a cheap smartphone handset for pic messaging use.
pps - Cancel the phone insurance and buy contents + personal possession insurance if you don't already have it.0 -
thanks for your reply.
Bluetooth is ok but only works if you're nearby, and quite often I'm exchanging pics with family. My mum doesnt have a smart phone so relied on MMS to show me the new puppy! lol
I guess I should learn to be patient and use email
i will look into cheaper handsets, would still be a pain having 2 phones but one that weighs less than house brick does appeal!!!
I am in shared accomodation so very difficult to sort out contents insurance, but you're right this would have been my first choice if I could have got it sorted.
I wonder if it's better to try and sell handset now ahead of the iPhone 5 release and just get something else in meantime...? Already down to £300 value in less than a year! Might get a little more on eBay though...On a mission to be mortgage free!

In my last job I had a crappy Nokia E50 or something. When I started the job I was using a Dell Axim running Windows Mobile, for diary etc. A couple of years into the job I bought an O2 XDA Zest smart phone running Windows Mobile. I soon tired of carrying two phones around so diverted my works phone to my personal number. I had no issues using my call allowance on my personal phone for work use as I was getting 600 mins.0

I'd be tempted to keep your personal iPhone and just put a PAYG Sim in it (ie GiffGaff).
That way you have the best of both worlds, no major cost to yourself and if your work phone breaks or is exchange for a different (none iPhone) phone or you change jobs again you still have your own iPhone. Remember it can still be used like an iPod Touch you don't have to use it as a phone (but with a PAYG Sim, you still have that option).0 -
Thanks for the replies so far.
It's interesting that people seem to think it's a good idea to keep a personal phone, I thought people would come at it from a more ruthless money-saving angle of sell own phone and then let work pay for ongoing calls so one less monthly outgoing! I don't feel so bad for finding it difficult to accept parting with my phone now!! lol
Originally when I bought my handset I was going to put a giffgaff sim in it but my contract is so cheap anyway at £11 a month including calls, texts and data that it seemed a better deal! :TOn a mission to be mortgage free!

I would definitly say sell your personal iphone 4 and get as much for it then just buy a simple personal phones that allows mms etc.
Business and personal should always be kept seperate imo.0 -
Thanks everyone, really appreciate the feedback. Perhaps I will try a cheaper handset for now and see how I get on... then if it's fine I can sell my iphone and still gives me until the Autumn to decide whether I'm happy having two phones or want to transfer my number to work phone when contract ends (risky but I only joined in January so hopefully not going anywhere just yet!!)
Cheers all
