Hi all looking for some advice
i am in need of a new car currently i have a 04 3 door silver Yaris and has been a great servant for me not much going wrong repair wise just last couple months like wheel bearings exhaust, brakes etc i have high mileage at 118000 was originally 36000
So a few factors i do a lot of miles due to girlfriend staying good distance away so would like to save on mpg and a small car as well
So was wondering what is better option brand new or used from main dealer

If you just wan't no-fuss small car motoring you can't go far wrong with a Kia Picanto brand new @ £5995. £500 deposit contribution if you take Kia Access finance too.
Works for me.
Small cars demand a premium on the used market so buying new with discount can make sense due to warranty etc.0 -
Budget wise was going to put 2 thousand cash down, then trade my car not sure what would get would £1000 be achievable then maybe get £2000 on finance
I was thinking of sticking to Toyota as with experience so far done well and heard japanese cars are good runners il read into the Kia Picanto as well"red sky at night angel delight, red sky in the morning...ANGEL DELIGHT!!0 -

Any saving on fuel would be more than wiped out by the additional cost of finance and depreciation. You would not end up doing this to save money and in fact it will cost you £1000's.
And the Yaris is a small car, isn't it?
As for 118,000 miles being high mileage, what does that make my 152,000 mile Mondeo?:D0 -
If you're interested in saving money, which I assume you are as you've posted on MSE, then there's no question - used cars are more cost effective.
I have only once in my life bought a brand new car and I would only do it again if money was no object - the smell might be nice and it's also good to have the peace of mind of the warranty but it's not worth the additional depreciation cost in my opinion.
I had a Nova that did 220k before it became uneconomical to keep it on the road, so don't worry too much about small cars doing a lot of miles - if they are treated well enough.:A0 -
or my dads 172000 mile Saab!0

Keep the car you have got.0

Yaris is a good little car, no point chucking it since it's very reliable!
If you wanted to downsize then the Aygo is the next step down. Good little runner for a city car.:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -

Those (few) problems are what you'd expect on a higher mileage car and of that age. Infact, if thats the worst of the problems then its been a bloody good car. Unless you go for an expensive diesel, with higher servicing/maintanence than your yaris, you won't get much more MPG from a similar sized petrol car.
So cut the crap, you want a new car, nothing to do with saving money or better MPG.0 -

Depends on the type of miles, your not going to find a small car very comfortable or economical hammering it down dual carriageways and motorways.
But as mentioned above (particularly because you have a small car already), there's no way on this planet you'll save money by buying another car.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
