Barclays account

I opened a Barclays account the day after going BR. I applied for internet access immediately and got it. I thought I had beaten the system. I had internet banking for about two weeks and then they cut it off. Their system had finally rumbled I was bankrupt. I went into the branch and tried being stroppy to see if that would get them to restore it, but they were having none of it.0

Just proves that Barclays systems are flawed - if you read my earlier post about being contact by barclays sales/marketing the other day and asking for internet banking and being granted they dont know what they're doing!0

Agree here...my husband opened a barclays account after discharge and was told he couldn't have internet banking .
We have just left it as it is as its not used as a main account.0 -
Im just using mine now for benefits and future salary, for online use I have a pre-paid mastercard (very good) which allows me to manage it online!!0

Thanks all, understood, even though Barclays doesn't mention this anywhere in there t's & c's...
Just opening up a little debate, why would barclays deny this access to Bankrupts??
In my opinion it makes no sense at all!!!
Do they still allow you telephone banking?0 -
A little snippet to be taken with a pinch of salt. Was in my local Barclays the other day and the conversation got around to BRs being denied internet banking. Discussed the easier budgeting with online access aspect. Member of staff mentioned they were reviewing a lot of stuff at the present time as they'd been 'pulled up' on things like that.
So a possibility of internet banking being allowed in the future, or not, who knows. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

In my opinion it makes no sense at all!!! You are right it does not.

I don`t think we will be getting internet banking whilst we are BR, saying that I only ever use this account as a spare account anyway. Even though I am discharged, I cannot be a****d trudging over to the next town to try and arrange it anyway. Also, I have managed to open a Cashcard account with the Nationwide, with full internet access now that I am discharged, and this was done online.:pB&SC No. 298

This one got me as well. Before I opened my Barclays basic account i was told by 3 different personal bankers in 2 branches that there was no problem having internet banking whilst bankrupt. As with wolfers I got my internet access for a short while and then was cut off (phone banking and access to the in-branch machines that do statements etc too). I also checked their T&Cs and wording on their website - nothing there. A real shock - wrote to complain but no dice. Unfortunately Co-op was one of my creditors so I didnt even try them. Discharged now and it was very easy to get all the services back again but it was like losing a limb when my internet banking was cut off!"I got food in my belly

Just concerned that from what I have read on this forum they will take the facility away from me. The internet & mobile banking is great.
I cant understand why that as soon as you become BR they would want to deny internet access, it helps with budgeting etc
I cant see it in the t's &c's either
Barclays will remove the internet banking facility from your account when you go BR, regardless of when you opened the account. You can have a basic Barclays account, with a visa debit card, but no online banking, while you are BR. Since I don't have internet banking on my Barclays account, I am now very good at keeping my accounts of what I spend/each time I withdraw from the bank. Its not done me any harm, and hope to keep doing the same following my BR discharge.
eta - I've always had, and still do have, access to a mini-statement from any branch of Barclays through their atms, at any time, with my basic account.0 -
Does telephone banking go as well?
I was thinking of moving abroad, without either I'm fooked....0
