Barclays account

Hi,

Last question tonight :o)

I've read somewhere that internet banking is not allowed with the barclays basic account if bankrupt? Is this true? Does it depend if opened before or after bankruptcy date?

Thanks

With barclays yep it is indeedy true....you loose all online banking bits till discharge THEN you have to contact them with proof of your discharge for them to reconsider starting online bits again

thats why most here choose the co-op instead ok their online banking is a little slow to update BUT can give you a good idea..the telephone bits are second to none as well

aside from the slow update speed, cash from hole-tin-wall, Post Office withdrawals and cash deposits are seen almost instantly....and of course, the most useful aspect of online banking with Co-op is the ability to pay bills, set up [and cancel] DD's and Standing Orders, and instant transfers of funds....all from your computer.

of course there is the friendly UK call centre staff....cannot really call it a 'call centre'....usual greeting is ''now then, chuck, how're yer diddlin'?''...and ''mind if I put you on hold a minute, just want to go make a cuppa...''
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

I have a cashcard account with barclays and was told when i opened it couldn't use online banking whilst bankrupt, however two days ago i had call from barclays sales/marketing asking me how i was finding the account and whether they could help me with anything so i asked about online banking - she said she knew of no reason why i couldn't so ok she would request it for me! haven't heard anything yet so well see!

think barclays training is very poor

I've already opened an account and have internet banking. Will they take this off me when I go BR?

Yes, They will 'downgrade' to a cash card account, which I believe is just that, NO debit card. I opened a Co Op cashminder, they are a tad slow to update transactions, but other than that a great account.
I also have a Natwest Step account, (I love it as it updates transactions 'LIVE' as they are made and has easy to use online banking) which was open pre BR, but I owed Natwest nothing, and I asked my OR if he could tell them I was allowed to keep the Step account, and so far so good, but I do only use for everyday purchases. The Cashminder has wages going in, and direct debits coming out and I transfer small amounts to Natwest for groceries etc. Good luck :)

It is already a cash card account & they have given me a debit card?

There website even says you can have internet banking??

    http://www.barclays.co.uk/Currentaccounts/Packagedaccounts/CashCardAccount/P1242557963900

Just concerned that from what I have read on this forum they will take the facility away from me. The internet & mobile banking is great.

I cant understand why that as soon as you become BR they would want to deny internet access, it helps with budgeting etc

I cant see it in the t's &c's either

I've got a Natwest STEP account too and use the online banking a lot; very helpful and clear to see what's going where. They're miles better than my old pre-poverty HSBC online banking.

    Best wishes. x

You will definitely lose the internet banking with Barclays whilst you are BR.
