Shoes for child with skinny feet!! advice required....

Am at my wits end with D/D 1`s feet I can`t buy non fitted shoes as they all too wide. They are so narrow, she is a 8D.

I brought her less than 4 weeks ago new school shoes from Clarks, they even had to order 3 pairs for her to try on especially. She complained they were hurting her last week, i took her to be checked and was reassured they were fine and she hadn`t increased in size I got two people to check.
Yesterday I noticed her feet were a little red in areas. Today I have picked her up from school, and her teacher said she has complained about them so made sure they were done up tightly they were she looked and D/D`s feet were bleeding and sore so let her put plimsolls on. Her poor feet have at least 3 sore areas, on side of her and two on top and slightly to the side of her big toe.

Is it worth complaining? Or shall I just try startrite and hope that they fit better? Can anyone recommend any other brands?
Thanks in advance.

Definitely go for start rite over clarks! My DD has ridiculously skinny feet, she is a D fitting too and has had Start rite since she started school with no problems. Dont expect a massive choice though!

  • Do complain, go in there, complain that they checked and fitted her and that they are clearly unfit for their purpose. I've had this with clarks before (with my 2nd oldest) where they measured, fitted him and then they rubbed him badly, they were really apologetic and refunded on the spot.

I'd also second Start-rite too for skinnier feet, my oldest has really skinny feet and they were always a better fit for her.

  • Thanks for the heads up on startrite, even though dd is an F width we have trouble getting shoes to fit well width wise,I shall be looking at startrite when new school shoes are needed.

Thanks will give startrite a whirl then. Can`t take her until Tuesday due to work and other things on, so may have to plimsoll it for a few days.

I will go and complain to. I am not to keen on those electronic machines they use to measure feet either, on that the first time they measured her a 8G ... She was never been wider than E ever. I had to force them into using the hand gauge.

    take them back definitely!!!!!!!

Startrite shoes are slightly more expensive but their fittings are narrower I had to get DD1's there as she is a C fitting.. the lady in the shop said her feet are like pencils lol... the baby has long skinny feet too so we may well end up back there!

I would definitely complain to Clarks, they will always give a refund if the shoes rub.

I agree about trying Startrite. Also Russell and Bromley have quite a few kids shoes in a D fitting. Hush Puppies do a really nice selection too, here's one: http://www.widefitshoes4u.co.uk/prods/cup-cake-hush-puppies.html

    Kickers come up narrow too.

Yeah, Clarks gave my youngest shoes too small. Went back and they didn't even argue - got a new pair out straightaway. My other daughter was a D and Clarks had nothing for her so had to go to one of those boutiquey places and get some Portuguese shoes that cost about £10 more than Clarks (ouch!). She is now F fitting so yours may change too!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
It may be worth looking on ebay as well if you are definite about her size but usually for startrite you have to go down 1/2 a size compared to Clarks

Just been to Clarks armed with the shoes and I got served by shop assistant who was trying to say they were fine. I was like yeah there so fine that there making my daughters feet bleed... I requested someone else to look, neither of them remeasured her feet just put the shoes on her made her walk.
So I am little cheesed off by this point and ask to speak to manager, the manager was day off, and assistant is on a late `lunch break.`
I left with the girls saying I would be back, and stood outside and rung customer care store team [very nice by the way.] I explained what had happened to the lady and she said should would ring the store directly and get them to actually measure D/D`s feet.

I returned and the assistant manager has appeared, all happy smiling ready to face me. The shoes as I predicted were not fitted correctly, feet measured no growth. Apparently the particular style comes up quite wide. For all the troubles we got new pair shoes, and a refund, which I spent wisely on sandals for the girls in start rite.:T
Thanks for the great advice :) x
