Tmobile PAC code confusion

My contract with t-mobile ended a couple of months ago and i'm now on a rolling month-to-month contract.

I phoned up to find out what notice was required to end this month-to-month contract and was told:

-30 days to outright cancel it
-2 days if using a PAC code
-24 hours to transfer to pay as you go

What i am unsure about is whether after using the PAC code, T-mobile will still charge me for another days, even though my number will be transferred to a new network in 2 days.

If this is the case, what will happen if I simply change to a pay as you go with t-mobile and then take out a new contract with another network? (i don't mind having to change my number) Will this get me out of paying for the 30 day notice period?

I know i should be able to find this out from tmobile, but im struggling to get a clear answer.

Thanks for any help.

    Nope.
You have to give 30 days notice by telling them you want to end contract on the 30th day and get them to confirm it in writing or double check they get that message. Or get a pac code and use the pac code within 30 days - don't use the pac code and it will continue 30 days rolling contract.

Switch to pay and go and they will do it most likely at the next billing date.
  • Ah, i thought as much.

Switching to pay and go seems like the way to go then.

    Thanks for the reply.

Don't know how random it is, but...
... I didn't give any notice, just phoned them up and asked to cancel. They said you can either turn the sim into a pay as you go which is instant or wait 30 days and the sim will cancel. I chose to turn it into a pay as you go and they said it would be done in a few hours and they wouldn't charge me anymore money.

I used to be on a rolling plan, I just got the PAC code, used it next day, then I got a final bill incase I have any charges (Or if I'm due credit)

I took my pack code last month after 18 month of contract. As I was told from tmobie customer service adviser that I can use it any time before it expired. Y'day I called them up for my options and use of PAC Code. I was then told that whenever I use my PAC code for other provider my cancellation period of 30 days will start. THat mean I will have to pay for another month when I will be using other network. I really lost my tempered and asked him why should I pay another £30 if I will not be using it? Well no answer. He gave me some options but I really wanted to leave tmobile asap. Well I choose PAYG. Again this CSA told me that I need to top it up of £15 to get pac code. I took his suggestion. Now I am not sure that if I top up my sim to get pac code. Do they will charge me to get PAC code? Do they really charge another 30 days if you use PAC code after finishing a contract? Are they trying to wringle our money out or CSA got confused.

Is anyone on the same boat? any suggestion?

Normally you have to give the 1 month notice AND request the PAC.

If you gave them the notice AND used the PAC within 30 days you pay only for 30 days starting from the day you gave them the notice.

How can you be on both PAYG and contract?

    Hi Grumbler,

Yes I gave one month notice and took PAC Code as I was not sure what to do. I was told that moment that if I use PAC code, I dont need to give one month notice. I just use the PAC code which will terminate the contract. I was give 30 days to do it. I have no recall the person I have spoken to but they tried to take money from my account as early termination charges. After enquied about it they returned my money and apologised.

Yesterday the CSA totally rejected my statement that I cancelled and took the PAC code last month.

Sorry for confusion, I convert my contract into pay as you go that way i dont have to pay for extra month (cancellation).

Is there something I am missing?

If you took the PAC, but have not used it, this negated the notice and the contract continued like a rolling one.

I think that you still have to give 1 month notice to switch to PAYG.

If you want to port the number, give notice, request PAC and use it within 30 days (I wouldn't delay this for more than 25 days). If you don't want to port and just want to cancel, give them the notice and make a note of the time and the person you spoke to. Some networks require the notice sent by a mail or e-mail.

    Hi grumbler,

I just spoke to a person from complaint department. She agreed that the CSA gave me wrong information regarding PAC code use. I didn't have to pay for another 30 days. So she gave me £15 top-up money back as well pac code. I am not sure if my problem sovled yet or not as they again can charge me for taking Pac code from a PAYG. So I am waiting. Yes I wrote her name down and time as well. Thanks for your help.

So, you are on PAYG already and have the PAC. Correct?
I don't see any problems. Just give the PAC to the new provider to port the number.
