Hi James and welcome to MFW.
You seem to have thought through your priorities, which will get you off to a good start. This is a lovely forum - lots of friendly supportive people, with varying degrees of obsession about getting rid of our mortgages. However, unlike the DFW people, we don't actually have to overpay our mortgages in the way that they need to deal with their debts, so we're free to make the kind of decisions you describe - abc are worth sacrificing to overpay the mortgage, but xyz are higher priorities to me than money, and I won't be reducing those.
Starting your MFW journey as soon as you get your first mortgage is a great way to begin. In years to come you'll be way ahead of the game. Congratulations to both of you!Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Nicely said Lois_E about it being a choice, and something we do as we know the benefits long term...
This place is great, and I'm sure 100% of people will say that they wished to start overpaying earlier on in their lives. I for one wish I had the hour I'd started my mortgage, even if only £5 a month extra, it all makes such a big difference

Get stuff you need(not want) : FOOD :
or things like the clothes, nice to have stuff, meals out etc. that is currently taken for granted.
Bottom line is priorities, you can only spend the £ once make a list and prioritise.0 -
Couldn't agree more with Lois, you are tackling your mortgage so you can work out your own priorities, and to be honest you probably won't get much argument from us lot after finding out you are a rather large weightlifter!!!!!
Your budget looks pretty reasonable to me, I'm just about 6 months further down the line than you, the only tip I can give you is the first few months lots of little costs will come up, set your self a deadline to start the payments, even if it is the second payment... that way you still have leeway to pay for silly thing in cash but you know you will start op-ing!
