Broadband Needed (Migrating from AOL) - need good usage limits

Hey Hey :D

We're currently on AOL Silver at 9.99 per month but are unable to use Outlook Express with it and I am reluctant to become dependant on their own software as it is so clearly inferior and a tactic to keep people tagged.

I've asked for a migration code as their IP Address is a US one hence I am limitedin what content I can access (BBC NEWS only allows UK ISP's access to broadband content).

However, at £9.99 for unlimited 1 megabit access, I know we're getting a good deal. I thought about PlusNet but every ISP seems to have some discontented moneysavers writing about them, so who should I go for? :o

Dont go with Plusnet, whatever yo do! Speeds are truly awful and dropped connections several times a night. I have just asked for my MAC code and will probably be going for Zen.
  • Entanet. Use one of their resellers (list on ADSLGuide). For £19.99 a month, you get 30gb limit peak and 300gb off peak per month (peak is 7am to 10pm weekdays, off peak is 10pm to 7am weekdays and all weekend). It's ADSL Max, too - up to 8meg connection.

Not when you have a desktop that is short of RAM and in need of replacement. I have a laptop which I use with Hotmail, however, with our current desktop it is not viable to use hotmail as it is so slow (especially with the silly "Windows Live" which uses heaps of memory just to type out a message).

  • I am currently paying AOL £17.99 for Silver, cant understand how you are all getting it for £9.99. I'm not in contract and am thinking of changing my supplier, when I contacted AOL they said they would offer me their wireless Silver for £14.00 per month, Is this a good offer? Also was cosidering SKY as I am a Sky customer. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Mention the SKY offer to AOL and they'll soon offer you £9.99. Tell them that you know others who are getting it :D

I really think that you should try to sort out your two problems with AOL. It is possible to use e-mail clients for your mail and there is info all over the net and even in this board about the settings. Couldn't you make use of a proxy to fool the BBC news feeds?

It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see AOLs unlimited deal cut back or stopped soon now that Carphone Warehouse has bought them.

AOL has been up for sale for a long time now. Throughout all this time, they have been offering unlimited deals at completely unsustainable rates (anything under £20 per month (probably more) for unlimited is not financially viable using BTs network like AOL do). It's been on my mind for a while now that they've been offering these deals (and making losses on them) to increase their customer base making the company worth more in terms of saleable value.

Now the company has been bought out. It wouldn't surprise me if the new owners looked at these deals, and introduced a new set of terms that introduced either a strict FUP, or download limits.
