i am insured compriehensive, i was asked if i can swap cars with a friend as she was going on a long journey and her car wouldent get there, so i looked at the faq on my insurance and it stated i am able to drive other cars third party. however in my policy document it says nothing
so i drove her car and i got pulled over for indercator being out the policeman told me i am not insaured to drive that car so issued me with a penelty notice, i contacted my insurance company and said they website is misleading they admited it is there fault and they will be sending out a letter to state i was insured at the time i was pulled over, (indeminty)
i could not hand over my licence as it is lost and a new one is on its way. what do i do do i take the document down to the police station????
also as i can not provide my licence within 7 days what happens there and is their a fine or points as i have only been driving a year and 2 months
thanks R.

Not too sure what would happen there to be honest.
In Scotland if you were given a fixed penalty and didn't have your full licence to hand, payment could not be accepted as you need to have the licence in front of you to endorse the points. In this case (even if it is a genuine reason for not having your licence) you would be cited to come to court and to produce your licence at that point. If you give a reasonable excuse your fine and points are normally the same as the police issued fine.
As I say this is in Scotland. Phone your local payment office n(should be on the back of the HORT1 form) and ask them what happens nextOfficial DFW nerd no 551 - proud to be dealing with my debts

ok you can provide evidence to your nominated station that your were covered because you insurers agreed that they would cover you for that period so dont panick, the officer could of checked your coverage by contacting your insurers there at the roadside and made things easier but hey he didnt.
youve lost your license (paper and photo or is it a paper only license) no biggie http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/NeedANewOrUpdatedLicence/DG_4022085 you may still be able to drive as long as your within your license restrictions.0 -
At the time of being given a FPN you would have been given a HO/RT1 to produce your driving documents correct? IF so you have 7 days to produce or risk further prosecution.
IMHO you will follow the appeals process on the rear of the ticket, you may be summonsed to court where you provide your proof of insurance as your defense and explain why you couldnt produce your license0 -
I didn't know that the police allowed you to continue to drive unless they could confirm that you had adequate insurance cover. Without the evidence from your insurers (which could of been checked at the roadside as per above), the FPN is £200 plus 6 points. Failing to produce your licence within 7 days will result in a visit to the mags where more points may be added so a ban is likely.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

Correct, if you received a FPN for no insurance then was the vehicle seized or was someone else with proof of insurance allowed to collect it?0

If it wasn't, surely this provides a defense for the OP? If he wasn't insured, then why allow him to commit a further offence by allowing him to drive? Something not right here...PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

Perhaps they allowed him to leave it parked up and walk home? Not impossible.
You will have to attend the police station and produce your documents within the 7 days. Explain the licence situation and that you are appealing. You will have a day at court and you can prove you were insured, so that will be fine0 -

.
Only if the insurance firm were open at the time.
Given that they generally all open for enquiries between 9 and 5 monday to friday, that isn't really an option at 3am sunday morning0
