Finally found some on council website but no cheaper than anywhere else and with postage made quite a bit more.
Like the idea of just buying / acquiring a plastic container and doing a bit of DIY.
Argos have none for delivery and none at any store nearby but that would have been brilliant. Also the lidl option but haven't seen any instore since started looking. Have also looked on amazon and ebay but again very similar prices.
In answer to the full butt question, I believe the connector has a valve so that once its full it allows the water back down the drainpipe.Morgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... It's GONE!!!!!

I use an old water tank (came out a neighbour's attic) and a bit of guttering tacked along the eves of the kids' playhouse to collect the rainwater. Works perfectly well and is shallow enough to use as a dipping tank rather than sit waiting for aeons for these dribbly taps to work. You can improvise using a couple of these big plastic tubs even, and a bit of pipe sawn down the centre. Or an old dustbin.
I do have two proper water butts but I don't use them for water collection. I make comfrey fertilizer in one and nettle fertilizer in the other.Val.0 -
I picked up a cold water tank for 99p from e-bay with all the fittings. will stand this on some breeze blocks and fit down pipe. It still has the valve at the lowest outlet to fill watering cans.
Have also made use of old baths to collect rainwater (can often pick these up on freecycle. Just a matter of a bit of lateral thinking as the more water you can store the better.0 -

Thanks, suppose it would be a good idea to link 2 together and save as much water as possible!:beer:2016 Money challenge - £2900 -
At the moment I have 1 on the garage downpipe and 4 on the bungalow downpipes. When it rains they do get filled quickly. But I'm on a meter so every bit of rainwater is great. If you have the space and can afford it get the largest possible.
To be honest mine are not proper waterbutts but ex fruit juice containers (parts bought seperately - rainwater diverter, taps and links as it worked out cheaper) placed on blocks and paving slabs. I think they can hold 150l of water per container.0 -

Im not on meter, but i think it would be better to save as much as possible, plus with getting blueberry plants they prefer it too!:beer:2016 Money challenge - £2900 -
good for you, thinking of the blueberries lol. Sorry the ex fruit juice containers are 210litres and were around £12 each. If I had the space I would of got a roto tank holds over 1500 litres.0
