Hi
I wonder if you could give me some advice.
Yesterday I did something rather stupid, my laptop kept saying it was running out of system space so I deleted a program that had been installed in 2008 (For the life of me I cannot remember what it was called or find it in my recycle bin)
As it was asking me if I wanted to delete things the words and icons got really large but I still agreed to it.
After it had deleted, everything on my desktop was all large and distorted.
It then asked me to restart the computer which I did, at the same time it installed a Windows update.
When it all loaded back up everything was back to normal except I think words are not as defined as they were and I was now on IE9.
The only other problem I had was that Google would not open, it said:
Index of /
NameLast ModifiedSizeTypeParent Directory/ - Directoryindex.lighttpd.html2011-May-02 15:09:483.5Ktext/html
lighttpd/1.4.28
Yesterday I restored to a point before I removed the program but it did not fully do this and when I tried again it had an error.
Today I have uninstalled IE9 so everything is back to normal (my favourites etc are back) but Google still won't open and has the same error and my words are still undefined.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks so much!!

No one has yet responded to you so I might as well ensure it's not a virus or malware. Hopefully while doing that someone else might shed light to what it could be!
Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50 - FileHippo.com and Install. Go to UPDATE tab, click CHECK FOR UPDATES, then run a QUICK SCAN. Remove everything it finds and post log here.
Download HijackThis 2.0.4 - FileHippo.com and Install. Hit the top button of the program which produces a log in seconds. Copy log onto here.0 -

Unfortunately when I run HijackThis it does not produce a log - instead it gives me a blank notepad.
I have tried a few times but nothing happens.
I will try again later.

Try right mouse clicking hijackthis.exe and selecting 'run as administrator'0

As malwarebytes has found some malware, it would be benficial to first do a full scan with malwarebytes: go to UPDATE tab, click CHECK FOR UPDATES, then run a FULL SCAN. Remove everything it finds and post log here.
Then can you try running hijackthis. As davb says:
Hopefully that works and produces a hijack this log.davb: Try right mouse clicking hijackthis.exe and selecting 'run as administrator'0 -
I too am having this problem; when opening google it is coming up with HTTP 404 error code. I have 'system restored' scanned and scanned again to no avail. I know this hasn't provided an answer but at least you're not alone!!
PS: I did read another post where a user was commenting on the fact that google were doing maintenance on the 3rd which was the last day my google page been updated0 -
Thanks everyone for your help, I don't have time to run some scans until the weekend so will do it then.
Thanks to mrsfrench - at least I am not alone. Mine also mentions 2nd May - the problem is I can't get on the Google chat forums to check my issue!!
Maybe at the weekend I will have time to switch on my desktop where I can access Google and sort it from there.
Thanks again guys!!
