Ceiling Leak

I wonder if anyone could advise me please on small leaks I've had today in 2 places in my living room ceiling and also one at the bottom of the stairs. All of the leaks seem to be drying out now.
I think I've worked out what caused them but just wanted to check it out with more informed people than me!
I was using a garden hose in garden to clean some garden furniture. The hose was attached via a hozelock adaptor to a mixer tap in kitchen sink. I think the mistake I made was when I didn't need the hose instead of switching off the water supply at the tap I just closed the opening to the hose. Stupid I know!
I think this is what caused the leaks. As the tap was still running but the hose opening was closed - the water had no where to go so basically backed itself up through the tap and back into the pipes which leaked.
Does this sound realistic? This was the only the water running at the time of the leak and as I said it all seems to be drying up now.
Thanks

No it doesn't sound realistic. What do you mean when you say it was 'backing up'. The water feeds to your hot and cold taps are a sealed system and therfore shouldn't leak. If they have, then there is still a leak there somewhere.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Hi thanks for your reply. When I say backed up I mean that because I'd closed the hose but the tap was still running the water had no where to go. So once the hose was full the water had to go some where and there were no leaks in the hose pipe. It just seems to much of a coincidence esp as leaks seem to be gone now.0

The water did not have to go anywhere, it would have had the same effect as turning off the tap. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

I think that you need to look elsewhere for your problem. As has been said already, the water does does not "back up" as you call it. It simply stops flowing, as in any other length of pipe in the house. If your theory was correct then there would be water leaking from your pipes every time you turned your taps off. The only possible place to lose water would be if some of the hose connections were leaky or opened up when the water pressure increased as the water was turned off.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

So, what youre fundamentally saying is that water has leaked into your water pipe?

hi many thanks everyone for taking the time to advise I'll keep an eye on it. I always appreciate the time people take out on moneysaving to help no matter how simple or stupid the question might seem.
muckybutt and jc808 - I can't imagine my life being so sad and empty that I would be reduced to making sarcastic comments on a forum. What purpose did it serve? What did you gain? How was your life improved? I sincerely apologise for not understanding how my water flow works - but then if we knew everything what would be the point of help forums?
Please don't bother to reply and hijack my thread. As my mom says if you have nothing good to say then......go get a life!0 -
Does your mum often get common sayings jumbled up? I detect a family trait...0
