I had one done as a teenager, i think 16 or 17, one at 28 and then had two kids, then none after that. I might go, but i seem to have developed a bit of a phobia, because i'm now 42.!
You should go, if not for you for your kids.
If I was at any risk I would have one once my time came around again as long as I could have a GA but I dont have the gear any more so I cant get cervical cancer, I do have one ovary left but thats all after a radical hysterectomy and that was only left because i was so young when it was done and it looked healthy.
It was November 2008 that I had my op after previous ops proved that only a radical hysterectomy would fix my problems so by anyone other than my PCT Im not even due another for a while anyway and Im also at low risk because I didnt start sexual relations early or slept around which are the main causes for this cancer.0 -
On reading the literature that came with the call up letter it's every 3 years up to 55 then every 5 years after that. Cant think why,
are you more vulnerable when youre younger?
Mckneff About 2,800 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the UK each year. Overall, 2 out of every 100 cancers diagnosed in women are cervical cancers. But it is the most common cancer in women under 35 years old.

Other factors include smoking , pregnancy a weakened immune system and the pill.
PS I had mine done today . Its no worse than having an internal examination for those of you who may be worried .Never tell .0 -
I'm not so much worried, cos ive given birth and i can't think of a worse pain than that, i just can't seem to go.. its since having the kids.0

Im not caperble of getting into any position that allows the test to be done, I have had it done under GA since my accident as I smashed my pelvis into five pieces and it has never healed up and I also lost all but a minimal amount of function of my legs.
Im not even well enough for GA's at the minute due to my DMARDs preventing my body from producing white blood cells, I need another OP and I cant have it because it too dangerous until my weekly blood tests show that my blood is recovering from the drugs, the DMARDs are chemotherapy drugs at a lower dose which is used to try and put my RA into remission, Ive tried four of this class of drugs and they all make me very ill.
It was only meant in jest certainly not a serious suggestion."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

It's because you have kids that you should go, your their Mum they need you around and you'd regret it terribly if they ever faced losing you because you didn't have it done.
Your phobia can't be worse than mine surely. I burst into floods of uncontrolled tears whenever I have to have a speculum used.
I still go though. I'm a mother too after all."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
The last one the nurse was so nice and professional, and of course it was a bit yuck and I did get nervous and clench, but it was only uncomfortable where previously it has been painful.0
