The speculum is now plastic rather than metal which is a vast improvement ;)

Nope no different except like Hoogervaaner says the speculum is plastic.

Maybe you found it painfull because you didnt relax, i know its kind of hard to relax i hate them too

I'm afraid they hadn't changed them the last time I went. :(

I have had quite a few because I had an abnormal result so had to go more frequently for a while.

Mostly I'm ok with it but I had a really painful one a few years ago - the nurse who did it for me was really new and she hadn't done many. She asked me if I minded that she was new as she could get one of the doctors to do it if I did. I said it was fine but OMG! I wish I had asked for someone else because it hurt so much. It took her three attempts to insert the speculum (I think that's what it is called?!)!
I've been since this (different nurse!) and it went fine but I decided that if there was ever a newbie doing them again I would refuse!

    xx

I know what you mean! Had one a few weeks ago and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I remembered. 5 years can play tricks with your memory......... and when you think of the possible alternative a bit of discomfort seems worth it

Yes they're not pleasant but compare how long it takes (5 mins) with a wait of 5 years for another one and they're worth it.

Good luck, no-one enjoys them but it's something that's got to be done, it might literally save your life. :o

    Happy moneysaving all.

Had mine a few weeks ago, and it was a breeze compared to child birth!! :o
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I don't usually like them at all, and would normally dread them, but don't think I'll be as bothered after having my baby somehow...

A necessary 'evil' that could save your life. Worth the pain/discomfort to know.
