I've put out a beer trap, not sure why you would have an issue emptying them? If you use something with handles and some rubber gloves, it's not that bad a job.
Because I'm a total wuss and I freak out if I see them. I could try it with my eyes closed but I'd probably trip over and end up with dead slugs in my hair or something
In all seriousness, if the slug problem did get really bad I'd try it. I don't want to use pellets.0 -

You're probably best off using slug nematodes in that case. These are basically parasites that kill off all the slugs when they're tiny and still under the soil. Applied correctly you should be guaranteed slug free, and best of all these critters are completely harmless to all other wildlife/pets/people. :-)

well today i made a start

have got some bits im very unsure on as im thinking they will need to go into the ground
cauliflower
cabbage
carrots
leeks
or will they work in grow bags /tubs
made a start and hopefully will have some luck with the following
lettuce
spring onions
cucumber
peppers
basil
coriander
courgette
will try and get some more done tomorrow if i can grow the above in pots, also have brocolli and beetroot to try and am still debating the onions this year
if i need to will bulk buy grow bags, viewing my new place tomorrow but have a feeling garden will need work to turn into a veg plot lol, but also telling myself it will be worth it if i have to use bags and tubs this year whilst i do whatever i will need to do to grow direct in the soilDebt free

you could look at them, do a few breathing excercises, and pretend they are something like cigar butts or somethingFreedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

It's probably because I'm not used to them as I grew up in a country where there were no slugs. That might work - I'll have to try it because they're a stupid thing to be scared of unless you're a seedling!0 -
I'm pretty sure they can all be sewn in pots but i know carrots can.
I put mine in a trough two weeks ago. I am not very confident they have worked though as all i have are two very teeny tiny leaves poking through. I have heard you have to be patient with them but i really struggle with that!
One of my carrot plants it dieing and i dont know why
I might take a picture this weekend and post it to see if anyone can shed any light. Redundancy isn't fun - comping is!

well the seads i planted the other day have started doing things

lettuce lots of little seadlings, on the go, will need to thin out soon
spring onions only a few so put reast of seads in compost
cucumber nice sprouting
peppers just starting
basil just starting
coriander just starting
courgette the only one im not sure on yet
also couldnt resist seeing if spuds are doing anything and want to take 2 from each bag as there is currantly 4, well they have lots of white mini shoots off where the chitting took place
still have 40 seed potato's to do something with
also today got a rhubarb and a strawberry set of roots from wilkinsons have put both in bags in the compost and will see how they go, there were 99p each so worth a shot i guess.
still need to find time to do rest of the seads, but at the mo my kitchen window is taken up, been a nice 25 in my flat today few more days like this and everything ive planted should be well away, it seems a little too easy at the moment though....
thank you for all the good advice so far

My carrots have made an appearance now!
What i thought were carrots coming through weren't. They are stow away's of possibly lettuce or maybe just a weed as i found on in my potatoes to (no potatoes in there unfortunately!)
My peas and sweetcorn are just starting to show too
