The app cannot speed up the data connection, you are kidding yourself if you think that GPRS is fast, it's the equivalent of DIAL UP on a home connection (it's actually slower than dial up, GPRS is around 40kpbs, dial up is 56kpbs.
How many people would consider DIAL UP to be fast?
At it's slowest, 3G is between 300 and 400kbps.
I stand by my opinion, DON'T buy this phone as something to use for internet, it's going to be slow and frustrating.
The San Francisco mentioned above is a far better phone.
Just to add, OS stands for "operating system", Opera is not an OS, it's an app. The Rio does not use the same OS as the Blackberry phones.
the phones i have must be freak of nature the fact how fast it is or i must be a liar i have blackberry curve and it is not as fast as this unless you use wifi.0 -
I bought a Rio from the Orange Shop in February. £29.99 + £10 credit but had £10 in my phone fund and used Quidco so the phone was £24.99 in the end.
I put my original SIM card in the phone and all my credit was transferred. I haven't topped up yet and this was over 2 months ago!
Fabulous phone and easy to use for texting and phoning. I was looking to buy an mp3 player and turned to this instead.
Excellent quality on the mp3 and the radio.
I would not hesitate to recommend this phone!0 -

Can anyone who has this phone unlocked confirm if the MSN and Facebook

Opera Mini requests data through Opera servers that then compress the page. Hence the speeding up which it does as it happens as at least one other person has been telling you.
Incidentally in the dying days of dial up (when broadband was £49 per month for 512Kbps) there was a similar paid for service to compress web pages to speed up dial up speeds which also worked.
As for the speed comparisons yes on the face of it GPRS is a dog BUT you are making the fatal assumption of a 3G or HSDPA signal being available which outside of urban areas in most cases it is NOT hell I can't even get Edge here despite using an HTC Desire or a Samsung Galaxy S2 so for people in that situation why bother paying for a handset that supports the higher speeds if you're never in a position to access them?
Bit like the BT farce of everyone pays for up to 8Mbps yet some users get 8Mbps and some struggle to get 256Kbit yet everyone pays the same price0 -
Thank you, OP - I've just got this for my mother for free (she had £19 in her phone fund and it's £17.49 now). The £10 top up went through on the order then she got an email saying the airtime couldn't be processed, so nothing to pay and it'll be couriered to her tomorrow. The ability to text using capital letters, commas & full stops easily are what appeals to her about this phone - and the full QWERTY keyboard.0

just popped in to an orange shop to buy the phone, but was told the phone had gone up to £39.99 and you had to buy £10 credit,he also said that the price on there website was wrong.0
