My bank, my card and Wonga

Why don't you just ring them for goodness sake?
I'm sure if this is an innocent mistake they will refund the money.
They have done everything par for the course as far as this kind of lender goes, this is the real message in this thread, AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS (literally).0 -
I've got ot be honest, I know the 10p / minute is cheesing you off but it would be a lot quicker to clear up if you just called them.
As a few people have suggested now.0 -
I know they are a rare as hens teeth but there are public phone boxes out there.
Good luck and hope this gets resolved soon.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -
I don't think it was absolutely clear from the original post, that the money was available for Wonga to take, infact the bolded part of the OP post make it sound as though it wasn't, otherwise why would they care if it was attempted at 00:01 or 23:59.
"April 29th comes and first thing in the morning I recieve a text AND an email from WONGA billing me for late payment. So first off, it wasnt late, our agreement clearly said to be paid ON 29th april not by a certain time or before, but actually ON that date.
Secondly, following a phone call to my bank, I was informed the reason the money had not gone to WONGA that day was because WONGA themselves had actually compromised my card and so they had cancelled/stopped it and were re-issuing me a new card."
If the money was available, then clearly Wonga should have been able to take the money, therefore I don't understand why they couldn't take the money and why the bank blocked the card.
Is it, possible that Wonga tried to take it at such a time in the morning the bank system flagged it as possible fraud and the repeated attempt, force the system to block the card.0 -
OP did you look at saynoto0870 like I suggested?Best Regards

and im back after a lovely 39 minute phone call...
First person said I must not have had funds, I told them I would happily email or fax them a statement or they could contact my bank to confirm, they wouldnt listen.
Said pass me to someone more senior, got the whole no one available bit, said I wasnt prepared to be brushed off as I need to get the matter resolved.
Second person looked into it and couldnt explain why I incurred late fees so early in the day and also couldnt understand what could have happened to make my bank suspect them of any wrong doing so she had to get "a colleague" to look at it.
Finally she came back and rather than answer any questions gave me the third degree about why hadnt I contacted them on the due date, when I pointed out it was bank holiday friday and that I had emailed them 3 times that day... she suddenly went "oh... hang on", another wait followed by, "we will end the loan and consider it fully paid now"
When asked about them taking several more payments from my friends account when she had only authorised 1, she claimed she couldnt comment on that and asked "if there was anything else she could help me with"
So current situation is, they have taken approximately £30 more than they were entitled to, they have made no offer to pay back that as well as just costing me a few quid in phone charges and I am still without my visa for probably another week!
Now while some will be saying "its only about £35 your out of pocket, dont worry about it" that really isnt the point... If every single person they treat like this just accepts it, wonga will continue to scam people and do very well from it too.
On a very positive note... I wrote to watchdog over the weekend and got a response from them today stating they are interested in doing a piece on WONGA and have had a few reports on them. They did however state they wanted more reports and stories before airing it on one of their shows. So if you had an experience with them or know someone who did, make sure they go submit their story to bbc watchdog0 -
Fingers in ears saying "lar lar lar i am not listening" PHONE THEM...and then you might be in the picture. It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

hmm really? my original post didnt make it obvious I had the funds available?....Reluctantly and not wanting to get in any trouble or be accused of not wanting to pay what I owed, I gave cash to a friend and just had them call the automated payment line and enter the amount they wished to pay and their card details. The debt was paid completely in full, on the 29th april as agreed.
Although you could argue thats not abundantly clear, I am pretty sure that most people would take that as implied that for me to have a friend use their card, I had the money available to pay them.
The reason I commented on the time they claimed I was late, was because prior to midday on the DAY the payment is due, is not under their conditions or any stretch of the imagination LATE. Yet they had felt the need to add on a late fee early that morning.
I have since said that I had more than enough in my bank regardless of what time they tried to take it even if they had tried the day before.0 -
OP I once had NTL as it was then fraudulently take £10 from my account-reported it to the bank who refunded it immediately to my account-can your friend not do this?0
