IIRC it was something about the £20 has to be spent on airtime or £40 in store but I may be mistaken.

Yeah that sounds reasonable. I can't see the terms and conditions stipulating that you have to spend the £20 instore on airtime - if that was the case it would be much more sensible and practical to just print that on the SEL as they have done with the airtime offers..... but you never know. Probably best to try and get hold of a leaflet though.
