How to help daughter prepare for Year 6 SATs

My daughter is about to do her SATS and she has done no preparation at home. If she has done much at school she hasn't mentioned it.
I have had 3 other children go through them and they really are not worth getting stressed about. There is plenty of time for exam stress when it's GCSE time.0 -
My DD's primary school started practising for SATS as soon as they went back in September, (DD is now at secondary school in Year 7) by the time SATS actually arrived she was heartily sick of it as were we all. I was tempted to take her out of school for a week. Her secondary school did their own tests, they actually sat some of them on their taster day in July before they started. I knew they did their own CAT tests anyway but they decided to totally ignore SAT results for streaming because a lot of the local schools had boycotted them or did their own in house ones marked by the teachers, so they felt they were not a good benchmark to go by.
They seemed to be of no practical use at all, they did not decide what stream she went into, they were logged on to the eportal system at secondary school but as an earlier poster said, once they have taken them they seem then to be ignored. My DD's primary made way too much of them basically because they had recently had a poor ofsted after always getting good ones. It only benefits the school and does not reflect on the pupils at all. Makes me fume to think about it now.0 -
"I just really want her to be her best - she is quite competitive to be honest and will feel really fed up if she doesn't do as well as she expects to."
"Yes I feel quite anxious about them on her behalf. She doesn't seem too concerned, which is good."
It sounds to me like you're projecting. Just chill, they really don't matter that much. Even if they are used for streaming, if it's subsequently clear that she's in the wrong class, she will be moved. Easy.
If she doesn't do that well and is really fed up afterwards, I would take the opportunity to teach her about dealing with disappointment/not doing as well as you thought you would.0
