What is the landlord doing? Most of the repairs seem to be the problem of the landlord not the tennant.
If she is the owner / is responsible for repairs, I'd suggest she make use of the 30k in hand to make a start and thus reduce the hotel bills. 5 months is a long time to wait for the government to pick up the bill."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
To be honest with that amount of capital I would very much doubt it! This is a prime example of why home insurance is vitally important. I accept that her MS makes things more difficult but surely what she needs is someone to help liaise with the companies doing the work. Is this something you could help with?
Surely if she is a tenant then the landlord is reaponsible for the building work and alternative accomodation?
Don't know what you mean by getting carer's allowance as she is getting DLA which is composed of both a care and mobility element? What does she currently get? Carer's allowance is what someone who is looking after her would claim.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Simple really, get the landlord to carry out the building repairs he is responsible for, then use the £30k she has to have the internal decorating carried out and replace carpets etc. Get some decent home contents insurance. In this instance, I fail to see the pertinence of her illness, to be honest.0

Must agree with victory. As she is a tenant, the onus is on the landlord to get repairs done. Her obligation is internal decorating, carpets, furnishings etc. Is the landlord not insured for the building?0

Her obligation is internal decorating, carpets, furnishings etc.
That will depend on the type of tenancy she has: usually the landlord will have to replace his carpets, his furnishing (if they were his) and redecorate his property.
Perhaps ask about this on the renting board?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
Read the sticky on the House Buying, Renting & Selling board.0 -
I thought the internal decorating was the responsibility of the tenant (unless it's council house) Yes if the furnishings are the LL's, then he/she should replace them. Whichever way you cut it, it seems to be the responsibility of the landlord!!!0

you have it the wrong way round! with social housing, the internat decorating is the responsibility of the tenant.
as your friend is disabled, they should try social services to ask about temporary housing, much cheaper than an hotel!0 -

Sorry, got it wrong:o It's just the old git next door, phones the council when the light bulb needs replacing, so I assumed they did everything!! We live in a small "mixed" estate, and the stuff the council tenants get done is unreal!!!!:eek:0 -
only thing i ever got when i was a council tenant was new windows and externat doors..............sounds great, but the property was 80 years old! first new windows since theyd been built.0

They were here not long ago, and the tenants got new bathrooms, kitchens, windows, doors and boilers. And still some were complaining!!:eek:0
