Tesco International Calling Card

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else has made the same mistake as me with the Tesco international calling card. I decided to buy one as it had offers of 3p/min to call Europe.

The problem I’m having though is that it is using all my Tesco Mobile pay-as-you-go minutes on my mobile phone.

I phoned the customer help line and they stated that to phone the access number Tesco Mobile charge 20p/min and the call card puts the 3p/min on top of that so it’s actually 23p/min!

To call the number without the calling card I would have been paying 35p/min so really the only saving I’m making is 12p/min. Better than nothing but still slightly misleading!

One question I have though is will it be better for me to call Europe using my home phone on the free phone 0800 access service? It says that the call will be 1p/min + 3p/min for the call. I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything else!

Thanks

I think this is obvious because you are calling the access number first. However, what I see is 4p+2p/m for many (all?) EU countries.

You are not, assuming that you are calling to landlines, not mobiles.

However, from a landline you can call to most EU countries for 0-0.5p: International CallChecker

Hardly misleading. Its pre-paid phone card which enable,s you to make national and international phone calls from any landline, mobile phone or payphone that will allow it. Its not designed to work from specifically work on Tesco Mobile or give you cheaper calls from a Tesco Mobile. Like any other prepaid phone card you have to pay to phone the access number, unless you call out of your inclusive minutes, or the phone method of your choice allows you to call a freephone access number for free.

You could use the 0800 free phone acccess number from your landline and be charged 3p a minute plus 1p a minute 0800 access.

Depending on your final destination your probaly find it cheaper to use someone like www.18185.co.uk if your landline supplier allows indirect access. Who is your Landline Supplier?

Or have a look at the http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/intcallchecker/ for the cheapest call providers.

If you have inclusive minutes on your landline www.localphone.com can be cheaper because you dont pay any fees, connection ,or service charges, and there access numbers are normal 01/02 numbers.
