Iphone 4
Hi all,
am thinking of getting my husband an iphone 4 for his birthday. Don't want it on a contract. He currently has 02 PAYG and gets 300 free text and unlimited (i think) access to the internet every time he tops up £10.
My question is can I use the sim from his current phone (Samsung Wave) so that he can keep the same tariff. My sister said something about the sims being smaller but you can go to a phone shop and ask them to transfer the data so that he keeps the same number. Also, is it better buying it from Apple or somewhere like Carphone Warehouse? I see there are some on ebay for sale but not sure if it's dodgy buying something so expensive on there, although I know you are protected by Paypal, it's just aggro if it all goes wrong.
Oh and also is the iphone 4 a lot better than the predecessor?
I'm not really up on this mobile phone malarkey as it doesn't interest me to that extent so any thoughts/opinions/ advice gratefully received.

O2 will do a sim swap:
http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/aboutsimswap.html
You can either buy a PAYG from an O2 shop, which will be locked to O2, but obviously will work with your husband's phone, or go to an Apple shop and buy one sim free, which will then be unlocked for any other network he may change to in the future.
Better is relative, but I would say yes, as in faster, and a better screen, the green eyed monsters will be along shortly to advise you about Android0 -
I love apples, but hate iphoneDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Thanks for that, will get to 02 shop this week and see if they have any, must be black not white so hopefully will be ok. If only mon had not got an Ipod he would not have wanted an iphone..... Could have just got him socks :rotfl:0 -
I wouldn't buy the phone from a network as it'll be locked (and pretty much the same price as directly from Apple). I'd buy it from an Apple shop, or order it online (with cashback from Quidco too). There's plentiful supplies of iPhone 4s these days.0

Thanks for the reply. If I buy it unlocked from apple and want to put my husbands existing sim card in it how would I go about it - will the Apple people do it? Sorry if that is a stupid question but all this technology is a bit beyond me! :eek:0 -

Definetly buy it from an Apple store it will be unlocked.
Your hubbys sim can be cut down to microsim size and still work.
Or take the sim into an O2 shop and tell them you want a microsim for your iphone 4 and they will give you a micro sim and transfer contacts for you.It may take a day or 2 to transfer your hubbys number over to the new sim tho.0 -
another vote for getting it from apple direct. I did that and much easier and no locks in case you decide to sell it later. It does make it more attractive.
I cut my sim down from orange as they wanted some £ for a micro sim swap, I thought I may as well try it and it worked fine. See you tube for instructions. If it goes wrong then you can pay for a new one.
And yes far better than the older model, only based on speed (not internet, just generally quicker), retina display, flash light camera and HD also the front camera. Not all features will be needed so the general speed is the big difference.
