ipod through ceiling speakers

To keep costs down you just want a class D amp, an ipod dock and some cheap ceiling speakers, could do the whole lot for around £50 with some careful buying! Loads of class D amps around and they are tiny and can be had for £20+, ebay for some ceiling speakers and the Cambridge audio ipod dock and you're set!If we know the budget then things may be easier otherwise Sonos may be the way to go.
I use a Sonos but a similar basic setup is going to cost £500+0 -

(charge it if it was plugged in obviously!)
No I don't unfortunately.Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.0 -

Ebay is your friend here!
Also you could look to a Class T amp thinking about it, may be better yet!
While on ebay its worth looking for an old stereo amp, will sound better than either of the above and could bag a few year old one for similar money - only downside is they will be much bigger!0 -
I'm in a similar position to flyer in wanting some clean way of providing sound into a new kitchen.
The option described by OP could be achieved by :-
a) Kef CI50R or similar as the speaker (about 45 quid apiece)
b) a line level amplifier (domestic amp or cheaper, as Shimmy describes)
Or...as this is MSE, how about :-
- a half decent set of 2.1 computer speakers and subwoofer. My daughter uses a pair of these in her bedroom with an ipod input.
For example, I have an old set of Creative T3000s I still like the sound of. The sub could be located somewhere out of the way, and often these computer speakers have a separate control for volume/bass. The speakers could be hidden on top of kitchen wall units.
It's not quite as showy a solution, but it may only cost 30 to 50 all in.0 -

there are a couple of issue with that approach, firstly the small pc speakers from a 2.1 set have very little output most comes from the sub which means the volume will be localised toone area of the room - you could just buy a set of computer speakers but the control is normally on one of the speakers so can't really hide them, the other issue would be the length of cable to the speakers, and extending them can be a hassle as they're usually plumbed in - but could work if you didn't want to have ceiling speakers like the op suggestedThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. OK. I've found this on ebay

but I'm struggling to find the ipod dock without amplifier, so I can plug straight into this one. Any ideas?Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.0
