You don't have many direct options for flight only to Burgas and none are likely to be cheap - tour operator charter flights are going to offer the greatest number of flights but flight only can be almost as dear as a package, especially in high season (July/August).icecurtain wrote: »Anyone out there have any cheap suggestions on air travel get to Bourgas(BOJ) in Bulgaria. The only direct scheduled flights are offered by Wizzair from Luton, who also do scheduled flights to Varna.
Bulgaria Air also do scheduled flights but to Varna, not to Burgas.
You have just missed a 20% discount on all flights booked on 28th April with Wizzair.
Ryanair fly to Plovdiv; Easyjet, BA & Bulgaria Air to Sofia but all would involve domestic flights/long transfers to the Southern coastal resorts.0 -
Is renting a car from Sofia and driving not an option?0

Plenty of cheap flights to Sofia and it's about 8hrs by train to Burgas. Regard the train journey as part of the holiday, seeing some countryside, meeting the local people etc. Far more rewarding than being flown direct into a tourist resort.0

Depends whether one wants a 5 hour or so drive from Sofia to Burgas and vice versa on the trip home.
Hence the question!
Been to Bulgaria and drove across it, was very nice to see the country having never been, and everyone was incredibly nice. If it's an option (time + expense of fuel + car) I'd certainly recommend it.
The train sounds interesting too although the lack of stops-on-demand may not work with very little ones!0 -
Yes, travelling through Bulgaria is very enjoyable, if one is not constrained by time, budget, etc.The train sounds interesting too although the lack of stops-on-demand may not work with very little ones!
I've only done short distance train journeys in Bulgaria (3 hours for a trip that would have taken 45 minutes by road) on a modern train with decent rolling stock - Bulgarian friends have suggested avoiding the long-distance trains, as many use pretty old engines & rolling stock, have less than salubrious toilet facilities, etc.
The rail network is also pretty archaic, which has led to several quite nasty accidents over recent years.
Much of this is due to the lack of funding/restructuring to improve the infrastructure - restructuring is scheduled to be completed by 2014, according to BDZ, the national rail carrier.0 -
Over the summer there will be charter flights from nearly all the regional airports to Bourgas. The usual suspects Thomson, Thomas Cook, Monarch etc however I am not sure how cheap they will be.
Also try Balkan Holidays, another tour operator to Bulgaria, they have their own airline and operate to a wide range of British airports over the summer season. https://www.balkanholidays.com0 -
