Almost taking the BR plunge........

NA - that's exactly the timetable I was thinking of suggesting. By the time the OR sets up the IPA Maizy will have had another month or two of keeping the 'extra' money anyway and hopefully only have to pay one or two months rent equivalent to the OR before needing the money for rent to pay the agents. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

To be honest hun, I think pre-paid utility meters are the least of your worries. Deal with the bigger picture and cope with the meters if they insist on them. You can always try to stall them when you move, saying as you have other debts then you'd rather let CCCS/CAB etc negotiate all of them on your behalf as it's unfair on the other debts if you pay more back to the utilities each month.
Just remember to read meters and switch everything off at source when you move out of the mortgaged house.
If you do get pre-paid meters you just need to make sure their tariffs are reset as of BR, so no more arrears are collected. Pre-paid isn't too bad as long as you budget and keep putting the money on regularly. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Agreed.
The only real disadvantage was that at one time greedy landlords/utility companies set pre-paid meters to gobble up more money.
I think that's now illegal, so you as a pre-paid customer should pay no more for your energy than someone on credit.0 -

...I am £500 short of the 6m fees/agent fees, how bad would it look if my relative sent me the money and we paid them back next week?...
Can't see a problem.
If you are ever challenged about the transaction - which I think most unlikely - you have a truthful and eminently reasonable explanation for it.0 -
Thanks again folks, ok I shall stop worrying about stupid things.
My priority is roof over head for these lovely kids of mine and to get out of this house which we are seriously restless in with the phone constantly ringing, going to change number when we move, oh there we go, just ringing again............... cant unplug as awaiting other calls.
I am £500 short of the 6m fees/agent fees, how bad would it look if my relative sent me the money and we paid them back next week? is that allowed through my accounts or do we risk it and await payday before signing up. I am just really worried that it will go and we are back to the higher rental detached type properties who dont accept dogs and are hoping to sell in the near future too???
Sorry for all of the questions but I promise I am just about there and ready to move if I could view it today I would but they too busy and Im back in work tomorrow to put a brave face on again......... I think I will feel a sense of relief when I get the keys to my new house. Cant wait. Not long now to view the first house - me and kids are cycling to that one about 15 min cycle tops. Its all one big fairytale to them getting a new house.
Thanks for ALL of the comments, cannot tell you how much you have all helped me through this. No longer seems such a huge nightmare.
Hi Maizy
I have been following your journey and can't really add to all the excellent advice you have had on here, but just to say good luck with the house hunting.
I am positive you will find the right property for your family, kids are really resilient and I think they will adapt to a new home very quickly
Hopefully once you are sorted with the house you can put all your energies into going down the BR route and it will feel less of a nightmare for you. Good luck xx0 -

Thanks again NA and Ang, I just dont want to get into any trouble but at the end of the day its to get a roof over my head so I suppose it should be ok.
Just had a walk around to the nearer property and Im keeping fingers x for that one for several reasons. However, the one this afty I shall keep you posted on as that ticks a fair few boxes, its just that we share a car and when the other one has it, the estate is pretty isolated, Im a bit spoilt living in walking distance from a Town that has it all which is why Im so swayed to the other house.
Ang - thanks for that support, Im now pretty confident I will get a house that is acceptable for me to rent and not feel too guilty about shifting the kids. They think its all great - if only they knew and could understand but I want them to see the move as a good thing for them, certainly have more space anyhow but a smaller garden, so sacrifices there. Thats me done for today as I seem to keep waffling on all the time, shall keep you posted on the property.
Your welcome hun, You waffle away, its good to cover all possibilities and if it helps to vent on here thats what you should do!
I can identify with what you are feeling although my circumstances were slightly different. I went through BR and lost my house too, although I only differ in the fact I am still living here but renting it now, and am no longer 'the owner'. It takes time to get over major changes that you are going through so don't be hard on yourself, all your worries and concerns are normal.
Keep posting for support x0 -
