Hi All,
I have a feeling i have a battle with BT coming up, i want to move my broadband from BT to Sky to save some money (I Think anyone else got Sky Broadband is it ok? or do i stick with BT anyway?)
I spoke to them yesterday and said i have 12 months to go on my line rental contract as signed up for talkanytime 6 months ago and that was a deal for 18 months, and cant change atm.
anybody found a way to get out of it?
Thanks in advance

No, you're in a contract and you need to either pay the ETC or see it out.
Sky will only be any good if it's Sky LLU. Do not even consider the dire Sky Connect (non-LLU).No free lunch, and no free laptop

Naturally if you decide to stop receiving your BT Line Rental, Call bundle, and Broadband within the contract period you signed up to, BT will hold you to term, and your have to pay an early termination charge if you cancel.
Heres an idea of the costs.

If you make a complaint to BT that they are not honouring their fixed term contract because they are changing their call prices, then they won't charge early termination fees.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Where does it say that in the T&C ?0 -

Did they make you aware that by changing your talk package, you were entering into a new 18 month contract with them? Did they send you any information to that effect? If not, I suggest you could probably challenge them on this and state they didn't highlight this condition.
If they did make you aware, then you'll just have to suck it up for another 12 months I'm afraid. However, moving to Sky really will not improve your broadband service.
I keep mentioning the provider I've been with the last 5 years today, so I won't repeat it yet again (for fear of being accused of affiliation with them :rotfl:), but you can check my very short posting history to find more info.0 -

sections 49-52Changing the terms (notification)- Sometimes, we will need to change the charges or the terms and conditions of a service covered by this agreement. We will publish details of all changes online at www.bt.com.
- We will also let you know about a price increase or a change to the terms and conditions that we believe is likely to cause you material disadvantage at least one month before it happens. We will let you know about other price changes and changes to the terms and conditions with your next available bill or by an alternative method if this is simpler.
- Sometimes we may need to make changes to our charges or the terms and conditions of a service which are outside of our control – for example to meet legal, regulatory or financial requirements. If we need to make changes for these reasons, we will let you know as soon as we can, but we will not have to meet the timescales detailed in paragraph 50, and you will not be able to end any affected service early without charge.
- If we make a change to the price or the terms and conditions of a service which is to your material disadvantage, you will not have to pay a charge if you decide to end that service early, unless the Tariff Guide says otherwise. However, once we have told you about such a change, you must let us know that you want to end that service within 10 days. This agreement will continue to apply to any other services that are not affected by any changes that we make.

I followed that advice back in Jan (contract wasn't up until May) & got out of it,BT still tried to charge me £9 odd admin fee for breaking the contract which I told them to stuff..
The was a thread about it back then, something to do with their price increases affecting your financial stability or the sort when the VAT rise occured.0 -

Yes, I've since had a letter where they intend to charge me £30+. Despite two people telling me they won't.
This is not going to happen.
Mr Warren Buckley will be getting a letter back.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Well, my final bill has arrived and there is a cancellation charge. I'll give their online billing complaints team a chance to resolve it before emailing Mr Buckley.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
