I use my netbook a LOT... while I drool over pretty tablets covetuously - I know I wouldn't get the same amount of use out of one. So far I've not given into the temptation.

    For me it's quite simple

A laptop can do everything a tablet can do. But not the other way round.
A laptop can do lots more than a tablet and it comes with a bigger screen and a keyboard.
I don't need my laptop to be mega-portable.

Why should I buy a toy?

Thanks DC, you have just helped me make my mind up, i was going to buy myself an ipad but will stick with old faithful lap top here.

A question as Im not really techie minded.
An ipad has no USB port so how do i get the things offa my lap top to the ipad (sorry if thats a stupid question)
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

not up on the ipad at all. but bluetooth or wireless network would probably be the way to go.

My little Netbook is great I've been tempted by a Tablet but the screen is easier to damage in transit and needs a case where as little Netbook slips into a bag. I guess it depends if you need to sit on the Train and pose.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.

tablets waaay too toy-like, and if they go wrong, you're far more stuffed than if a lappy goes....stick with a proper lappy

This is why I am holding off buying the Motorola Xoom - I know it is a toy but I WANT one! I think it would be great for travelling, would be easier to take on holiday, great for entertainment etc, but I would not dream of getting an IPad, but a nice Android Honeycomb tablet would make my day. So far trying to win one, temptation may be too much if I find one for a decent price (at least 50% less than it is currently), or may be tempted by one of the quite a few different ones due on the market in the next few months.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

I wouldn't get a tablet for any serious productivity work. However, for light email, IM, web browsing, social networking, catchup TV services and casual gaming, they are excellent. For a lot of people, that's all they use their laptops for, so you can see why tablets have so far been very popular.
