Hi All,
I know very general question but keep thinking i want a tablet/ipad but unsure if it will just get left under my bed and never used again, will it replace my laptop and be good enough to type essays and letters on being touch screen?
Seems so many choices with different version of android etc im just lost, anyone happy with theirs etc?
Thanks in advance

To be honest if you are doing a fair bit of typing a touch screen would not be as good as a proper keyboard, so for me a laptop would win every time

Possibly as there are some tablets you can plug in a usb keyboard into.0

Tablets are for surfing whilst taking a dump or lounging around.
If you want to do anything more demanding - especially involving typing then use something with a proper keyboard. IMO paying a premium price for a tablet and using it with a keyboard is a sign of having far more money than sense.0 -

They're a nice toy but not suitable for long term productivity use.--

I've had my iPad for nearly a year and it is a great, however it cannot really replace a 'real' computer. I have Docs-To-Go and dropbox so I can sync all my work documents (spreadsheets, word, pdf files) from my laptop and view and edit them on the iPad.
I would not want to create them from scratch on the iPad itself though. I can just about touch-type on the iPad, but highlighting, copying, pasting is just a bit irritating. Even something as simple as looking up a word in a dictionary (or on Google) means that you have to swap applications as opposed to just opening another window. It can be done, but it is much slower.
For non-work things like movies, games, looking at the internet it is great.

This is also the reason why it will not be the case for me, for the time being.martinthebandit wrote: »To be honest if you are doing a fair bit of typing a touch screen would not be as good as a proper keyboard, so for me a laptop would win every time0

For me it's quite simple
A laptop can do everything a tablet can do. But not the other way round.
A laptop can do lots more than a tablet and it comes with a bigger screen and a keyboard.
I don't need my laptop to be mega-portable.
Why should I buy a toy?0 -
Hunchbacks who use the integrated keyboards on their laptops rather than using an external keyboard are bad enough. Great news for chiropracters if people are now wanting to hunch even further to use tablets!0
