Not sure what phone to have

At the moment I am on a sim only deal with O2, which runs out in July I believe, but I can upgrade and get a new phone now.

Hubby has just upgraded to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, and is waiting for it to arrive.

We both have the Sony Ericsson Aino. The Iphone is too expensive on my current provider, but 3 seem to be offering a good deal for the Iphone 4 (£25 a month, £99 for the phone).

Am not sure about the Iphone though, as we had the 3G (not 3GS) and hubby gave it to me and after half an hour decided I couldn't use it as a phone, because, I couldn't customise the message alert tone, It wouldn't connect to my laptop via bluetooth, it was too difficult to put my own ringtones on and I wasn't sure if I could live with the way the text messages are arranged (in conversations). Have any of these things changed in the Iphone 4?

Not sure if I would be able to leave O2 as I am on a 12 month contract.

Any advice please?

Thanks in advance.

All android phones are far more customisable. Not sure about text messages because it becomes a norm now and you are the first one I know who doesn't like this. There are many apps for messaging. Have a look at this (random) one:

You can customise all alert tones in the xperia x10i which i think is better than the iphone the new xperia arc looks great and the android 2.3 which comes on it is alot better tham mine.

I'd look at the SGS II in person being as you are female, as unless you have hands like a bunch of bananas, you may find it a bit unwieldy.

The customised text tone was the ONE feature I had to have - I have a voice recording of my wee niece telling me I have a new message and I just love it. I ruled out the iphone for this very reason and opted for a Blackberry because it has the facility to customise them

It was the best decision I made. Love my BB and wouldnt have anything else now :)

Starlight - which Blackberry do you have? There seem to be so many.

I like the look of the Samsung Galaxy S2, but when I go through the upgrade process through my O2 account, that model doesn't come up, only the Galaxy S is there.

I might have to ring them up and see if there's more choice of models.

At the moment I can get:- SE Xperia ARc, Xperia X8, Vivaz, Xperia X10 mini or X10 pro pink.

Samsung:- Wave 723, Monte, Galaxy Europa, Galaxy S, Galaxy ACE Black, Galaxy mini or Galaxy wave 2.

Iphone is out as they are too expensive.

Blackberry:- Bold 9780 white or black, Pearl 9105 purple or black, curve 8520 black or purple, torch 9800, curve 9300 purple.

Nokia:- have gone off their phones so probably won't even bother considering one of theirs.

I love my Nokia N8. It has a great camera, and sound for playing music. Plus long battery life. If those aren't your priorities, a HTC desire would be my choice. A lovely phone.

Ive got the Torch. As I said, I love it and it definitely meets all your requirements :)

A friend of mine has the Pearl and loves it. He wanted one with just the traditional numerical keypad not a touch screen or qwerty one.

Im not interested in games etc but I do like my personalised text tones, oh and personalised LCD notifiers too lol x

Very slightly bigger than SGS1 but does look bigger .

Both in my hands but that quarter of an inch does make a difference in holding the phone SGS1 comfortable fit in the palm SGS2 not quite a snug fit .
O2 UK have SGS 2 in stock now but a lot have sold out of the stores until the next delivery .
