You are correct KrissKross, he does already know where I live but things are relatively quiet right now and I wouldnt want to disturb 'the sleeping monster' if you see what I mean.

Police reports, how would I go about getting those. He has never actually been charged with anything, just 'persuaded' by the police to leave and not return within 24 hours. The last time that happened it was last year.

There should be information on police records as they came to your house, i would ring the police in your area.

To play devils advocate (as I am so good at it).... how is this different to people who manipulate their financial situation to claim benefits and are therefore denied them on the grounds of intentionally disadvantagising themselves?

The CSA wouldnt pass on the name and address of the claimant though I my reading of the OP is the same as Krisskross'

Why should the tax payer pay more money to maintain a family simply because the mother no longer wants contact with the person she decided to have kids with?

Thankyou everybody who contributed. I will go ahead and appeal (although I have no idea how to do so, the form they sent this morning said there was 'information enclosed' telling me how to appeal, but surprise surprise, there was no such thing. Will have to telephone them I guess. Just been on the CSA website and ordered lots of the leaflets which hopefully will help me go through the process. I have until the 28th December.

    Thanks again.

Astaroth, I take great exception to your comments.

I am 47 years old, have never once claimed any benefits in my whole life until this year. I have worked and paid tax most of my adult life.

Since seperation from my ex 12 years ago I have wholly supported myself and the children without any contribution whatsoever from him.

Please dont be so quick to judge. You may find yourself in an unfortunate position one day and maybe, just maybe you might want a helping hand from someone.

N.B. In addition to the above, just because I married and had children with this man does that then mean that I must maintain contact with him whatever his behaviour? Surely not! I do value mine and my childrens happiness and well being. I am sure you would be complaining also if I didnt care about my children. In what situation do I win. It seems like none, and I pay the price for someone elses bad behaviour for the rest of my life.

The CSA knew where my ex lived and worked but I refused to sign anything or let them get involved so they deducted £8.40 from my IS for 6 mths then £4.20 for following 6mths. then that was the end of it. I dont think they are allowed to take more than £8.40 off your IS. They tried to scare me by saying I could lose all my benefit, but they cant leave you with nothing, ss dont let them scare you. I was warned so I was prepared and not scared.

ok i get it know he knows where you live already..
in your situation id be exactly the same reluctant to involve him again. i sympathise with you. id ring your local police staion they should have notes on the incident that happend and get them to forward them to you,. you can then include these in the appeal. good luck mm x

Does anywhere know where you can find out the actual amount they can take if you, as it seems wrong they can take £8 off one person and £25 off another?
