Morning all
Thought I'd pop on and see what healthy debate was happening whilst I watch my Sky +ed Match of the Day and every single blinking thread is either one that's been spammed by that GHUOL thing or it's about silver. I have no problem with discussing silver, but does it need to be every single thread? How come the mods sorted it out on the savings board yet this one is allowed to be spammed?
Anyway, think this place is having one of it's (very) downhill moments so it's probably a sign that I need to sign off for a while and do something else. Laters!

Agreed re the mindless re-invented 'GHUOL'.
Chasing the silver threads even I find a touch annoying (& I use the stuff as part of my savings protection to avoid them being used as a 'save the property prices' tool by govt.).
You don't think the excess silver threads might not be a latent reaction to years of 'Excess McSpammish'? He of the blindingly brilliant 2007 property 'investment' in Aberfl***ingDeen that everyone must agree with otherwise he will self-destruct!!!!!!!!

Hi Cleaver,
I've moved your thread to the site feedback board where it can be seen by the forum team. MSE do not normally delete any thread or post unless it is reported by members.
The threads are not excessively off topic for the debate house prices and the economy board so have not been moved.
If you feel this needs to be addressed, please email the forum team, forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com
Thanks0 -
Now there is not one silver thread that I can see? - Why is that please?0

There have been a lot of spam posts recently. Best thing to do, is not come on here, if fed up. Its a good forum, but its sometimes good to take time out, and enjoy RL.0

My question was for moderators.
I am aware that promoting silver is frowned upon.
The threads I was referring to were not promoting silver.
Kindly note that it is the height of ignorance to knock what you don't understand! (if that is what anyone was doing)

There are thousands of posts made on the forum every day, it would be impossible for someone to read them all. Also, if we were to read and approve every post we would be legally responsible for the information in those posts.
We want to protect our users as much as we can, therefore we have a 'report-a-post' system (see How do I report an inappropriate post?). Only after going through this process are posts legally deemed as being published by the site. Why has my post/thread been removed without telling me?
Posts/threads are deleted so we're no longer "publishing" them. While you may have posted it once we are made aware of it - we are legally liable too as the publisher. When something is deleted, it's removed from public view but it's still viewable by the Forum Team and can be reinstated if it needs to be. It won't show up in a forum search.
We never contact people when their posts are deleted. The sheer numbers of posts removed every day means it's simply impossible to contact everyone.
The Forum Team won't respond to aggressive emails demanding to know why a post/thread's been removed but if you send a polite email asking, it may review or explain the decision where possible (sometimes legal reasons prevent this). If you're still unhappy email webmaster@moneysavingexpert.comBest Regards

I'm not aware of the silver discussion issue - but am sure it is being handled by the forum team (which I am not a part of)
I would ask you all to remember that it is also a bank holiday weekend which means we have very little coverage.
On the spam issue (assuming its real spam and not just a discussion that annoys you) then please press the spam button if enough people do that the thread will be auto-deleted until it is reviewed by the forum team (who will reinstate if its been incorrectly spammed)

A lot of the threads have been deleted now Martin, so looks as though the team are doing a good job.
It's a strange one because it isn't spam in the strictest sense of the word, in that it isn't just links to other sites or blatant advertising or anything. And I don't think any discussion 'annoys' people to the point where they feel the need to have the thread removed, and I've never asked for a thread to be removed in the three years I've posted here. If I don't like, or disagree, with the subject matter of a post then I'll post a response as to why or I'll just ignore it and let others discuss the issue. The problem a couple of days ago was that pretty much every single thread in the 'Debate...' board was full of what was presumably the same person going on, and on, and on, and on about how wonderful silver is. I believe this happened on the 'Savings and Investment' board too, which is why silver discussions were banned there.
Don't get me wrong, the subject matter of silver as a commodity and as an investment is worthy of discussion on this forum. It's just that the two boards I use are the 'Debate...' and 'Savings...' board, and recently they've been clogged with silver chat. The 'Debate...' board is full of lovable nutters anyway and not a lot of advice is given, so it doesn't really matter all that much. But the 'Savings...' has a lot of really good people giving great advice which is tailored to the people asking it, so it was a bit annoying seeing 'buy silver, it's a risk-free investment' advice being given to nearly every question asked.
The forum team seem to be doing a good job sorting it out though, so hats off to them.0
