Oh my goodness, I am a bad bad DFW! 2 Months missing in action.
It's been a bit of a strange journey over the last two months. I haven't updated my signature yet, I will save that delight for the end of the month but I will be down to single figures :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
As some of you may remember, the caravan went which meant that I was down to the figure in my signature now sub 20k. And I knew that my hubby had a share option maturing which meant that we hoped we would get another 3.5k to bring us down to around the 16.5k mark. Well we have managed to sell the shares for 4k so that will bring us down to just under 16k.
The other thing that has happened is, again as some of you may remember, I lost my nan last year to cancer and was left some money which was one of the reasons we managed to clear so much last year. This left me quite bitter about things as I did get cross about what I could have spent the money on had we not got debt. Well it is now pretty much one year since my nan passed on, I went to visit my grandad at the weekend as my mom said he has been quite down lately as it is nearly the anniversary. He has had some funds mature and has given me another cheque this weekend for another £5.5k
I know this is fantastic news but again it leaves the bitter taste in my mouth about how my nan must be turning in her grave seeing me having to use these funds to pay off debt rather than "investing" etc. I am hoping by the end of the month, I will be able to put my outstanding figure as around £9,800.00. Unbelieveable really compared to the figure that was in excess of £41,000.00 such a short time ago. I would love to share my pearls of wisdom about how I slaved, made extra money etc. but the reality is that most of what has been paid off has been through inheritance (now £13.5k and £6k from the sale of the caravan).
One of the reasons I have been so awol is I have just been so busy with work and household chores and everyday life. I really want to try and make sure that I get some quality time for myself
On the diet front, I have not been quite as successful
Oops - it can't all be good can it!
I have a cheap break away with my girlfriend a week Sunday, have never been on a girlie holiday before and am a little nervous as I have never been away from the husband and the family for more than one night before. Although the 26C in Spain at the moment will help somewhat, I am kind of starting to get nervous that a) none of the new summery clothes (don't worry, only George and Tescos) I bought about 1.5 months ago will now fit as I have put on about half a stone and b) me collecting and driving a hire car in a foreign country will be a recipe for disaster. Bring it on :cool:Just keep swimming!0 -
Hi Itsa,
Im glad youve returned
. Loved reading all your news, im so pleased for you that youve managed to clear so much. Dont suppose it matters how you got there, you have cut back in other areas also and you should be proud :T.
Enjoy your girly holiday, im sure you will love it once you are there xxMummytogirls x0 -
Haven't been in here before.. But well done so far.. Will subscribe.. How exciting re the holiday. Rest and relaxation.0

ITSA, its so good to have you back and to hear that you are ok.
I am very impatient at the best of times and am looking forward to seeing your new signature, not sure I can wait until the end of the month ! I can totally empathise with how you feel re the inheritance, but at the end of the day its mean to an end and as much as you feel your nan would have wanted you to invest or do something nice with the money, I'm sure she also wouldnt have wanted to see you struggling and worrying about the debt either. At the end of the day her money has helped you begin to live a happier and stress free life earlier than you could ever have hoped, so her money and your nan have helped you. It doesn't matter how you spent it, your nan and grandad have helped you get where you are today. Am I rambling or making any sense what so ever here ?!!!
I am sure you will enjoy your girly holiday. I am not too good at those. I only been away without Mr Pinot once before and spent the whole time wishing he he was with me, but then again I was working and in Mauritius with a bunch of people I had never met before. Certainly somewhere you need to visit with the other half, not total strangers !!
Try not to disappear for so long again, but I know that real life sometimes gets in the way ! xLBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

yay you're back! I wondered where you had gone!
Great news about the money and i'm sure that your grandparents both would be happy to have helped you pay off the debt, knowing that you in turn will be a little less stressed, and a little nearer to having your life back and not being tied to the debt! I'm glad to see there is a holiday in there somewhere
sounds fab so make sure you enjoy it!
Can't wait to see new sig. Can't you update now for us impatient ones

I would look at it this way, by using that money your getting a better life for you and your family, then when your debt free, you can set yourself a savings challenge to make that money back, even if it takes 5 yrs to do, that way your still doing the best of everything.
Love the sound of a girlie holiday, any room in the suitcase xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Well guys, I tried and tried but it just wasn't possible to get into the single figures (I think the girlie holiday and the few clothes I bought before hand probably pushed it just beyond reach - but hey ho
).
It's really weird because at one stage in my life and in lots of other people's lives, £10k of debt would be a :eek::eek::eek: but to me, it seems like we are nearly there lol :rotfl:
Had a lovely relaxing time on holiday (after the initial 24 - 36 hours of near breakdown
) and a couple of days lounging around was just what the doctor had ordered, I was so stressed in the run up to the holiday - my boss had created all of the work that she would normally have done whilst I was off and I had to do it in the week before I went, I was working till 10.00pm most nights - I get paid for what I work but I don't think I could actually cope with that workload longer term. Added to the nervousness of going on holiday on my own - the day I flew I actually felt really rather unwell. Its a horrible thing to feel a lack of confidence to do things on your own, but normally Mr Itsa is Alpha in our relationship and I just leave him to it. With me and my friend, I have to be Alpha really as I am older and wiser
but this meant after the horror of flying on my own - making my way through the airport and then getting the hire car I could have sat there and cried that I just wanted to go home.
A day after driving like a Spaniard and I was absolutely fine, and it made me realise that I CAN do these things on my own (not that I am thinking of leaving Mr Itsa or anything but I wouldn't want him getting overly cocky that I can't cope without him
).
So back home and back to the grindstone tomorrow. I am determined to arrange my work/life/play balance to work more efficiently to feel like I have more relaxing time rather than running around after everyone.
I have a few things that need budgeting for in the next couple of months, the pup needs to be spayed which I think will be £150.00 ish, £300.00 towards the short break with the family in August, £300.00 for spending money for the holiday paid for by the in laws in September and another £300.00 for a large family get together at a centreparcs in October (everything seems to be in £300 s!). So I need to find £1000.00 basically and keep up the debt repayments of £500.00 per month. I could always only pay the minimum towards the credit card which is amazing only £100.00 but I don't want to lose that momentum. I will be able to invoice quite a lot this month which should give me an extra £100 - £200 and a carboot is definitely on the cards. I think I have £200 in my savings account leaving £800.00 to raise in 4 months  The gauntlett has begun, time to start being extremely frugal again
Hope everyone is OK
So my challenge byJust keep swimming!0 -

Ahh what a shame, but you know, I think the extra little bit of debt was probably worth the nice brak and the realisation that you can do things by yourself

I'm at around the same figure as you now, i'll race you

But you did it! I recently went to the cinema by myself and that felt nerve-racking enough haha. So good on you for doing something so big by yourself :T

This can only ever be a good thing, so good luck with getting the balance right :T:T
