  • Feeling quite positive on the debt busting front today as another NSD :j I know you shouldn't wish your life away, but I am willing on payday so I can update my spreadsheet and see a total that has come down (albeit a small amount).

On the diet front I have not had a great day. I weighed at Weight Watchers yesterday and got a bit lulled into a false sense of security as I had lost a few pounds and so fell off the wagon and ate I think it was 6 quality street chocolates :D My excuse is I have women's tummy ache and I always get a headache at this time of the month and so feel fed up, which makes me eat :o

Tussling with British Gas still about this whopping bill that we have had, they have added charges on that date back to 2006 and even though part of me knows they can't do that, it makes me very worried - if the demand the full amount be paid, the only way would be either on a card or borrowed from the extended family.

Have been give the night off on Saturday but can't decide at the moment whether we go out to the cinema to see a film or stay in. I really want to see Water for Elephants as it is a book I have read. Feel a bit guilty about spending £12.00 on cinema tickets whilst trying to be so good, but part of me thinks that we are on this for the long haul and will not be able to sustain it if we do not spend little amounts on ourselves, twelve quid is cheaper than a meal out?

See if I can be good tomorrow maybe, one day at a time, trying to not make a feel like a jail sentence :o

    Hi Itsadogslife :)

I stumbled across your diary by accident last night just before I was going to bed (doing my last minute stalking and lurking :o). Thought I would post on your thread this morning.

Just to say, well done for getting it all down on "paper" and keep going. I think you have to treat yourself along the way or it will just be too difficult. Don't beat yourself up about going to the cinema once in a while. Look for 2 for 1 deals for restaurants so you can have a nice meal out for half the price. I desperately need some new clothes. I haven't bought anything new for myself for years. I am going to try to buy something in the next couple of months. I still feel guilty when I buy myself something but I really do NEED some clothes.

    Have a nice day!

  • Hi itsadogslife,

Sorry its taken so long to read your diary after welcoming me in mine. I'm known to do that alot.. people ask me how my weekend was and I say great...then move on to the next conversation without even thinking of asking how their weekend was!

Im not rude....just a man (I love using that excuse!;))

Anyhoo....well done on your progress so far. Im like you, really want payday to come so I can see the debt lower ever so slightly and feel like I've achieved something. Can't really offer much advise at the moment as I'm still finding my feet also.

I too have been around this website for ages(since jun2005) and am slighly embarrassed about not acting 'til now, but the positive thing is we are now facing our debts head on. (also on a cheeky note, Its not as if I didnt have fun spending it! ha ha- tongue in cheek)
  • Having a relatively good day today, I spent £11.99 on food in the co-op (budgeted for) and didn't spend anything else. OH had two pints in the pub on his way home from work which he doesn't normally do but there was a member of staff leaving so he went to say goodbye, so generally a very good low spend day for a Friday. In terms gone by, I would have told him to pick a take away of some form up on his way home but I cooked instead :D

Went out for a lovely walk again with the dog, nearly an hour so that will help towards the curly wurly I ate after my tea. Although they are on
3 points on WW :T So I put it in the freezer and it lasted longer than normal

I am thinking of taking the dog to the vets next week as she is losing so much hair. I feel like she is going bald and her hair feels all horrible and slightly greasy. She is 9 and has always had such a good coat so I am thinking maybe her thyroid is dodgy or cushiness or something. I don't want to have to spend on the vets or an excess but she is never ill and the moulting seems to have been going on for weeks and weeks.

PJB, I will let you off as you are a man, it seems to be a genetic problem :rotfl: can't possibly retain information :D

I have a box of stuff that I was going go car boot to raise some funds towards spending money for hollibobs but sods law the weather forecast for this Sunday is pants. I draw the line at sitting in the rain to raise £40 :o

On another plus note, I have been busy at work this week and have therefore worked a few more hours which makes up for Mondays day off which is good

Jobs for the weekend are the usual, boring old chores like washing and ironing, if the weather stays nice, I have lots of painting of outside things that needs doing such as garden furniture, fence panels, pond surround but again, I am not doing it in the rain :o

I will have to go to the garden centre at some point for a couple of grow bags and a couple of cucumber plants. Might get a couple of trays of bedding plants to replace the pots and hanging baskets at the front of the house and that should all come in at under £15.00. I love summer, I love being outside lots and find it so much easier to be active when the sun is shining :)

Hope everyone else is having a good day :A

Long shot, but don't know if you are a friend are on Orange, if its them, just get them to forward the message to you. (if the film is on Wed, and your both free), that way you still get the night at the cinema, its been done on a mse budget, best of both worlds.

I would always say you have to got have a treat every so often, even if its half hr in bubble bath and relax, or a cheapie !! night at the cinema, think of it as a reward for a good week debtbusting. xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • It has been a funny old day, I woke up in the middle of the night with a bizarre sensation in my chest, It feels like something was stuck right at the top of my abdomen under my rib. Paced around a bit which woke the pup up so she was whinging, and slept badly between 4.30 and 6.30am  Woke up therefore in a grotty mood :p

Have spent £7.09 today in the co-op on groceries. I seem to be spending at least a fiver per day average on just food so I do think I am maybe under budgeting the shopping and think it will be nearer the £200 mark per month rather than £150, will be interesting to add up at the end of the month.

I was good today and did a load of washing which I managed to line dry. I asked OH to calculate the cost of using the tumble dryer and he has come back with a figure of £1.20 every time I use it. If he is right (I might pop over and see the Old style board as I am sure this must have been asked lots of times) but I easily use it 4/5 times per week which means that I must be spending about £20 per month drying the washing. I find it catch 22 because I tend to tumble dry instead of iron :o so my challenge to myself is to line dry where possible - thinking of maybe making a PAD every time I use the line instead of the tumble dryer for a pound a time or something similar?? We shall see :)

Hope everyone is having a productive MSE weekend ;)

Weekends can be a real downfall for us, we do really well all week and then the weekend hits. OH desperately needs a couple of pairs of shorts so have ordered some bits from George to be delivered to the store, this came to £29.00 then had to do the store cupboard shop at the big supermarket. Hey presto and we manage to spend £101.00 in the store and £55.00 filling my car up with petrol

And to top it all off I think a weirdo in the supermarket either called me an effing sh*t or an effing bit*h :( I seem to attract them, luckily the OH didn't seem to notice or else I think there would have been trouble :o

Apart from the hideous spends at the supermarket earlier, which I am going to have put down to experience, we spent £1.00 entrance to the car boot and £1.80 on a hose attachment that has different jets on it. I managed to refrain from buying any books :T so that is nearly 2 weeks now without buying anymore books which is good for me.

I have been very good again and did another load of washing which went onto the line instead of the tumble dryer. After pinching the idea from 321 I am also going to reduce the usage of the dishwasher, buy rinsing everything in cold water first to get any residue off and then just washing on a quick wash. I think a quick wash is about 35 minutes but a full cycle is nearly 2 hours

Was starting to think about what things we need to take with us on our holidays today too which is kind of exciting. I am looking forward to it, but do feel a little bit that it is getting in the way of my debt busting, makes me sound very ungrateful though when it has all been paid for for us :o Going to have my hair cut by my friends sister on Tuesday and then my mother in law is going to dye it for me with an off the shelf colour at the weekend and I will be back to being yummy mummy, currently just greying bedraggled mummy.

Managed to stick to the diet again so have been really quite good all week. Took the dog out for a walk about 8.00pm and it was lovely, sun just starting to go down, countryside, warm with a nice breeze. Managed 45 minutes of brisk walking - dog is fast asleep bless her and my legs feel achy, no pain no gain!

I think you are right about the weekend downfall thing. I spend so much more at the weekends  Just can't help it but going to have to try :o

Good about no more books :)

Well done with the line drying thing. I live in a top flat (2nd floor) and it is a hassle getting it down the stairs to put it out. I am a bit lazy but also I am not very strong and I struggle to carry heavy things. I know that is a pathetic excuse but it really is true. Also, I hate ironing too and when I tumble I don't need to iron so yet another excuse to be lazy :o Although, I don't find my electricity bills to be too high. I only tumble 2-3 times a week and the last time I checked my power bills the electricity for a week was £4.53 so I allow myself that luxury. Same with the heating, I get cold really easily and I can sit with layers and layers on, blankets and hot water bottles and still be cold so I don't grudge myself a bit of heating when it is really cold

At the risk of sounding like a total weirdo here, I like the pain I feel in my legs when I have been exercising :o Makes me feel like I have done something. Am trying really hard to exercise by going to zumba and walking home a couple of times a week as I really need to build my strength back up.

Oh dear, looks like I am trying to hijack your diary here. Sorry. Better shut up and go to bed :p
