Me and my boyfriend are the opposite way around, he wants to rake over everything endlessly and I can't wait to talk about something else! From this evidence I'd suggest that talking it over is the better option, because I've got a hefty overdraft and my boyfriend has savings. :A0

Hi
welcome to the boards and your own thread, hope you don't mind just added the caravan in.
Reading your post if you can get through to xmas, that be brilliant as it will free the £196pm which will make a massive difference.
Now just got to look short term planning.

Total HP & Secured debt................. -135,000
Total Unsecured debt.................... -38,300

Looking at adding in £45 pm for the caravan that leaves £118 to find, made a couple of pointers, but it sounds like you've covered every avenue and base.
The family loan is a large chunk, know its only till xmas, but have you snowballed your debts to see if you can swop the payments around and get the best payment plan.
Your doing brilliantly, - hopefully there be extra hours, if your working part time have you looked at mystery shopping to top your income up, can be hit and miss, but may be worth a try.
Also look at survey sites, review sites, even if its vouchers, help towards presents.
xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Thanks mum2one for your tips. We don't have gas in our village so this is just electric and we have to have economy 7 storage heaters. I hate the things but actually I think they are cheaper than paying to have oil or lpg installed and the running costs for those are higher anyway.
I have to have one prescription per month and I have been told by the surgery that it only works out cheaper if you need 4 prescriptions or more every 3 months.
The car insurance is for two cars.
Yesterdays total spend for the day, 2 litres of milk, can't remember exactly how much but about £1.70, so far today, 50p entrance to the car boot but I was good and didn't spend anything and resisted the temptation to buy more books

What I use to do with prescriptions, was buy the 3 monthly version (now £29.10), but before the end of the time period, I would restock up on the prescription (one reason to have spare, 2nd to make the prepayment pay for itself), then I would leave it a month or 6 weeks before I renewed it, it use to work out that I would get 3 x 3 months during the year. I'm asthamatic so did work out as value for money.
If your only on electric and economy 7, then I'd say your doing brilliantly, the price of oil is unbelievable, we've some friends on oil, and they have said the price has literally doubled over the last few years.
Sounds like fun at the carboot, - you should be the other side of the table!!
Books, just stocked DD up on Horrid Henry books, thou some were ebay, others got online new cheaper, shes flying through books at school, and they say read at home, did offer her my books from Open Uni courses, but she didn't see the funny side!
Got to say thats good value for 2 cars, think you've got the moneysavvy bug down to a T.xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Just wanted to say well done for starting a diary and posting your SOA, you seem to be making great steps to reduce your debts, could you do some car booting or ebaying to bring in a bit of cash, lots of people also do surveys that can generate vouchers which you could save for christmas/birthdays.0

*is in awe of people who actually do a SOA*
impressive start!
and at least you can talk over things here thus avoiding the different approaches you and your fella have.

Ha ha, I am a real chicken though as I wasn't quite brave enough to do the SOA under my old username
What I want to do is put the grand total in my signature strip so that I can see it going down. It is embarrassing really to have been a member of this site since 2006 and to not be much further forward, I can talk the talk to everyone else but sometimes don't practice what I preach???:(
Mum2one great tip if I can work that out on the repeat prescriptions front, I thought it would automatically renew it, doing it your way would save £21.00 :T You learn something new every day:cool:Just keep swimming!0 -
Right then, yesterday ended up spending £11.48 in the Co-op but this is allocated for in the budget and £10.50 for a hanging basket for my nan for her birthday, again allocated for in the budget. So yesterdays excess wastage 50p car boot entrance :-) Today I was a dreadful wife and didnt get up before husband had to go to work so he went off with no lunch and therefore the poor unfortunate !!!!!! was forced arm behind his back to go to KFC £4.99 :-( Although I sold half a dozen eggs for £1.00 and made his lunch for tomorrow out of left over pasta from tonight's dinner with a tin of pasta chucked on top of so we have made up for it.
Find myself still yearning for another furry member for our family, it is just too quiet with only one dog. We have not only had one dog for so many years, but am trying to hold off for now, the food cost is not that much of a difference but I do like to have my dogs insured as I would hate for them to need treatment and me not be able to afford it. I keep looking at the dog rescue sites longingly :-sJust keep swimming!0 -
Todays grand total spend, £6.08 again on food shopping so apart from that which is budgeted a no spend day :T i think I am going to use this diary as a place to keep a track of how much I am spending on food shopping as I am pretty sure that I have under budgeted for food in my SOA.
Feeling a bit yukky tonight, I have stuck to my diet now for 3 days but find that lots of fruit and vegetables gives me tummy ache  If I eat stodge and carbs I feel better but have no energy - just can't win!
I am trying to avoid wastage and so have been having a real good clear out of my cupboards and freezer. I have so many cook in sauces and was extremely miffed to find two bags of rice and a box of lasagne sheets at the back of the cupboard that went out of date last year
Managed to squeeze in an hours walk with the dog today which was nice, the weather was fabulous again although I think the midges took quite a fancy to me. I have looked at the weather forecast for the weekend though and it has forecast rain for Saturday and Sunday sods law as we were thinking of doing a car boot
Have watched Secret Millionaire tonight, it is so lovely to see such wonderful people that do voluntary work just out of the goodness of their heart. I like to think one day if I am debt free and have more free time I would like to do some volunteer work in maybe a charity shop. I would love to do something like a PAT dog scheme but my girlie is really really licky and the dogs that they use have to be pretty much bomb proof, she is but she gets so excited that she would just bash into people whilst trying to smother them in kisses :A Maybe that will be me one day, keep playing the lottery I suppose

Hi - me and my mum did the PAT dog scheme - and our dog was very lively!!
The older people in hospital loved her though and she loved all the attention - so a more lively dog doesn't necessarily have to rule her out.
The rice and pasta should be ok btw - although they ran out last year, that's just a best before date...so unless you've chucked them, try them
