Dodgy email from Amazon.com ????

Options
received an email today from Amazon.com

titled: your order-update@Amazon.com

now the odd things is despite it being delivered to my email account, the email address is to someone else (is this o.k. ??)

the details within the email are as follows

Subject: Your Order Id:7XXX4298XX82 Accepted.

(with a link titled: Information)

Thank you,
Amazon.com Support

for obvious reasons I have changed some of the digits with XXXX & XX

also obviously I have not clicked on the link within the email

also I have not ordered anything from Amazon for quite some time, neither do I have any outstanding orders

my main concern is the fact the email has come to me but has someone else's email addy, is this correct

thoughts please folks

If the order is genuine then it will show up in your Amazon account, otherwise it's just phishing, so delete it.
    Check your Amazon account.

Most likely a scam spoofing Amazon. Don't follow any links.

Google a few words out of the message and see what comes up and see if anyone else got a similar message.

Amazon normally addresses UK customers from amazon.co.uk addresses.

Just hover over any link in the email and it will most likely not direct to "amazon.com" and something random like "viagraisus.com". This is the most obvious way of knowing if it's genuine or not.

In terms of "bonzer" stating, "Amazon normally addresses UK customers from amazon.co.uk addresses." this is not correct at all. If you placed an order with Amazon.com (Amazon USA) then Amazon.com will email you with confirmations etc., if you ordered on Amazon Japan (amazon.co.jp) then emails will come from Amazon.co.jp. Amazon.co.uk is its own site .com is a completely different one.

To be honest, surely you know if you have ordered with Amazon recently? if it has someone else's name in it or not then if you haven't ordered anything then how on earth can it be "right" as you say? Just ignore emails like this and log into your account in the future, if you dont have an Amazon log in then clearly you can dismiss it!

I would personally check your amazon account going via amazon.co.uk or which ever country amazon you use. Your credit card details may be stored on amazon and if they're hacked etc. someone could be ordering something with your card. Or it could be spam, but you'll know either way.

I think it's a reasonable assumption that someone posting on a message board aimed at UK consumers is mostly likely to be using the UK Amazon site. Therefore receiving an unusual message from a different Amazon site should be treated with suspicion.

Thanks to all for the replies and explanations etc

just to confirm what I did state in my original post

I have not ordered anything from Amazon for quite some time

also I have no outstanding or queries on any orders what so ever

what was puzzling me was why I fully expected it to be spam etc
it was clearly addressed to someone else and not my email address

    thanks to all for replies

Have you got a phd in stating the bleeding obvious spam poster!!!! Some of the threads on here are unbelievable. Reported.

What? Am I missing something - why should the post from johnnyboyrebel be reported?

Sorry, I don't see the problem.
Don't like the system, don't shop at Amazon.

I expect most of us find it very convenient.
